Welcome, Mr and Miss NWU Mahikeng Campus

Larona Binang and Saneze Gweva are the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mr and Miss Mahikeng Campus.

They were crowned during a beauty pageant hosted by the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Arts and Culture office on 12 August 2023.

This event is hosted annually to provide a platform for students to showcase and enhance their talents and to express themselves through public speaking.

Celebrating the importance of women

The Arts and Culture office on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently hosted a Women’s Month celebration event themed “My sister’s keeper”.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate women and the importance of mental health. Discussions focused on the importance of therapy, self-love, sharing personal experiences on mental health, spirituality, self-confidence and taking charge.

The North-West University (NWU) would like to wish our NWU Eagles the best of luck during the Varsity Netball tournament. You have shown time and again what remarkable people and exceptional players you are. Your commitment, hard work and ethic of care has made us proud, and we know that you will give nothing but your best on the court.

Last year you were runners-up in the final, which is already a remarkable achievement, and you have all of the NWU family’s backing to go that one step further.

Faculty of Education launches Busy Bee Kindness Corner

The Faculty of Education at the North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus officially launched the "Busy Bee Kindness Corner" community engagement project on 14 August.

Dr Elize Küng, deputy dean for community engagement and stakeholder relations in the faculty and champion of the project, says the idea for the project came about during a visit to the Kortrijk Campus of the VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Belgium.

Rap Rumble showcases hip-hop talent.

River FM, the radio station on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, recently teamed up with energy drink company Red Bull to host a hip-hop talent show - Rap Rumble - at the campus student centre.

The talent show embodied the NWU’s diversity, and contestants showcased their various linguistics skills by rapping in Setswana, English, Afrikaans, and isiZulu.

Academic lauds Transport Department's nanotechnology road rescue

North-West University (NWU) academic and professor in chemistry, Prof Lebo Seru, has praised the Department of Transport’s announcement that they will be embarking on a pioneering plan to reinforce collapsing roads in the North West province through the innovative application of nanotechnology.

The department has committed to launching a pilot programme that will harness the potential of nanotechnology to transform road construction, enhance road surfaces and curb water seepage.
