The Debate Union on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently participated in a debate tournament hosted by Wits University.
The team competed in the Public Speaking and Debate categories, achieving notable results. In Public Speaking, Thato Katametsi secured second place and received the Best Speaker award for the tournament. In Debate, representatives Lethabo Mathatho and Makhosini Dlamini reached the finals in the novice category, securing second place.
Sandile Mbizeni and Sekgobela Kgopotso were acknowledged as top adjudicators in the Public Speaking division and adjudicated the finals.
"We appreciate the opportunity to represent the NWU and hope for similar opportunities in the future," said Makhosini.
Lethabo attributed their success to the guidance of their guardian and lecturer in the Faculty of Law, Chevaure Du Pokoy.
Speaking on behalf of the Debate Union, Sandile thanked the Student Life department for investing in their skills. "We have learned a lot and will apply this in future endeavours.”
