Dance Extravaganza showcases dance team’s fancy footwork

The ballroom and Latin dance team on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently hosted their fourth annual Dance Extravaganza.

The main aim of the event was to raise awareness about the availability of dance as a sport at the NWU, showcasing the different styles of dancing, and to raise funds for the team.

A generous gesture - clothing donation drive benefits Potchefstroom communities

The Community and Stakeholder Engagement Office of the Student Campus Council (SCC) on the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted its annual Barefoot Day.

The purpose of this event is to donate clothing and shoes to various projects, schools, children’s homes and non-profit and non-governmental organisations.

Keeping up with tradition, students tackle their daily routines without shoes on Barefoot Day, and this year a clothing race and fashion show added even more fun

Student team shines in solutions challenge

A group of North-West University (NWU) students recently participated in an Industry Solutions Challenge at the Southern Africa Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC).

For this challenge, postgraduate and undergraduate students had to form teams across institutions and/or campuses, participating in one of four industry-inspired challenges – provided by SATNAC’s top sponsors.

Stability in borrowing costs is positive for consumer confidence

As was widely expected, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) again decided by a vote of three to two to continue to keep interest rates on hold, following a similar decision at the previous meeting of the MPC on 20 July.

Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the North-West University (NWU), says this further “hawkish pause” outcome was the right decision by the MPC, taking into account the overall global and domestic factors at present shaping South Africa’s economic environment.

2023 Bua! Poetry Slam ignites creative expression

The 2023 Bua! Poetry Competition Slam sparked a surge of creativity across the North-West University (NWU). The Creative Writing subject group in the School of Languages launched its inaugural intercampus Bua! Poetry Slam session across the three campuses earlier this year.

The Bua! Poetry Slam featured three distinct poetry competitions, each one hosted on a different campus. The Potchefstroom event took place on 5 April, followed by the competition in Vanderbijlpark on 3 May, and the Mahikeng competition on 25 August.

Vanderbijlpark Campus bodybuilding team excels

The bodybuilding team on the North-West University’s (NWU's) Vanderbijlpark Campus has again brought home significant wins. The team recently participated in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) National Championships in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, and emerged victorious in several categories.

Mandlakayise Jonga was named the overall winner in the Senior Men's Physique category, while Moses Paneng took third place and Mthokozisi Zuma sixth place. Ayanda Piyo emerged as the winner in the Senior Man Classic Physique category.

Rusmore will represent South Africa at international bodybuilding and fitness championships

North-West University (NWU) student and bodybuilder Rusmore Verah has been chosen as one of the bodybuilders who will proudly represent South Africa at the upcoming International Fitness and Bodybuilding and Federation (IFBB) World Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.

Scheduled to take place from 31 October to 6 November in Santa Susanna, Barcelona, Spain, this international competition is a dream come true for Rusmore and a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Student secures third place at human resource management awards

Coert Visser, an honours student in human resource management at the North-West University (NWU), recently won third place at the Marius Meyer South African Board for People Practises (SABPP) Excellence Awards.

This award programme underscores the importance of human resource management within organisations, and also celebrates and acknowledges the outstanding achievements of students in the field.
