Young scientists from several primary and secondary schools in the North West province presented their scientific projects at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Regional Science Fair held on Friday, 2 August 2024 at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus.
The learners were also treated with a campus tour, including a visit to the Botanical Gardens and Science Centre.

The Student Life division on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently hosted a public lecture titled “Leadership and Student activism” to educate current and aspiring student leaders on the essence of leadership, especially during the current Student Campus Council elections.
Commemorating Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July 2024, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Khayelitsha residence on the Mahikeng Campus spent 67 minutes at the Mahikeng Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) centre.
“When we think about community engagement work, advocacy for animal rights often takes a backseat to other issues in society. Our residence initiative to partner with the Mahikeng SPCA aims to raise awareness about the rights of animals in society, and advocate for their care,” says Fazlin Lahri, residence administrator.

In a significant stride towards promoting equity and inclusivity in higher education, the 5th Bi-Annual National Conference on Gender-Based Violence, Diversity and Inclusivity was held from 1 to 3 July on the Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU).
The Gender Practitioners' Community of Practice, in collaboration with the NWU and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), successfully hosted the conference, bringing together a diverse group of gender practitioners, researchers, policymakers and activists.

For many years, the goal of the biennial Engineering Week has been to introduce high school learners from Grade 8 to 12 to engineering as a fascinating career.
