North-West University (NWU) women continue to shine during Women’s Month and their extraordinary achievements do not go unnoticed.

At last! Hard work and dedication finally paid off. The government-established South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) was officially launched on 7 August 2019 on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Potchefstroom.

The North-West University (NWU) honoured Prof Monica Ferreira with an honorary doctorate on 22 May 2019 as the most prominent first-generation exponent of research on and the development of a policy on ageing in Africa.

Game of Thrones breaks all the rules of film making. That is why it is such a huge success. “There are rules and laws of film making that you have to abide by, unless you want to create a specific effect,” says Phil Pretorius from the School of Communication Studies on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark.

“A graduation ceremony is essentially a symbolic recognition of a new generation of leaders, opinion-makers, experts, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs. In short: a day when the doers of tomorrow step to the fore to be counted as proud stewards of sustainability, innovation and progress.”

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Prof Erhabor Idemudia recently broke ground on research that looks at African cultural practices that aid the spread of HIV/Aids and what can be done to curtail this. 

In accord with the North-West University’s (NWU) commitment to pursue, accommodate and provide a fair and an inclusive language environment, the university recently celebrated annual International Mother Tongue Day across its three campuses.

When it comes to research, the findings are only as strong as the analysis of the data. If a researcher is proficient in statistical analysis the research will benefit society, if not, it is an opportunity lost.

 The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential; these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence and this was proved to be true when the Graphic Design students from the North West University yet again showcased their excellence at the 40^th Annual Loerie Awards which took place in Durban on the 17^th and 18^th August 2018.

On a dusty street of a village in the North West Province a group of 12-year-olds are cheering each other on as they play kgati, an indigenous game using a skipping rope. As the game intensifies one of them hears her grandmother shouting from the kitchen, requesting her to go to their ward counsellor’s house and ask if social grants will be paid the following day.
