NWU academic invited to a renewed research stay in Germany

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has invited North-West University (NWU) research professor Erhabor Idemudia for a renewed research stay at the German foundation for a further collaboration with Prof Klaus Boehnke.

The renewed research stay is in recognition of Prof Idemudia’s academic achievements and his cooperation with German specialists.

His first one-year research visit was spread over two years, in 2018 and 2019 respectively, after which the book titled Psychosocial Experiences of African Migrants in Six European Countries: A Mixed Method Study (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-48347-0) was published in 2020 by Springer Europe.

The period in Germany will allow Prof Idemudia to lay the platform for a new research study titled “Sources of psychosocial capitals as pathways to positive acculturation and wellbeing of black immigrants in Germany and the Netherlands”.

“The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation would like to see researchers continuing academic cooperation with specialist colleagues in Germany on a long-term basis,” explains Prof Idmudia.

“This invitation offers me once again an opportunity to conduct more research in Germany.”

Prof Idemudia is also currently hosting a Feodor Lynen research fellow from Germany as a postdoctorate in the Faculty of Humanities from 2021 to 2023.

The Feodor-Lynen project (http://www.beliv-study.com/  and http://www.beliv-study.com/team.html) is coined “BeLiv” (Better Living Research Initiative for a better coexistence). It is a research initiative to foster social equality and mutual habitation and to promote wellbeing.

“Our goal is to further our understanding of changing world demographics and actions that facilitate better life experiences, which proposes a fresh approach to exploring social infrastructures and interactions as mechanisms for health and wellbeing through credible research,” says Prof Idemudia.

About The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation research award

The conferment of a research award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a unique, one-time distinction. Invitations to renewed research stays may be extended to award winners after completion of their initial stays in Germany.

Invitations serve the purpose of allowing award winners and their colleagues in Germany to continue the collaborative work initiated during previous stays, to complete a joint research project or to pursue new joint research.
