Retha Bloem

Retha Bloem is a social worker with a 25 year academic research history. As a graduate from the University of Pretoria, born in 1968, she obtained her B.SW, BA (Hons) industrial Sociology, (cum laude) Magister Atrium,(cum laude)  Masters of Social work (play therapy) (cum laude)  and Ph.D. (UP) under promotorship of Prof Rina Delport  in a period of 10 year.

Pieter van den Berg

My main research focus is on Sevens rugby, coaching and video analysis. Started my studies in 1994 and have until recently obtained a BA degree in human movement studies, HONNEURS in movement studies, MASTERS in human movement studies, Post graduate diploma in teaching and PhD in Human movement studies. I have taught for 4 Years where I acted as house master at the school. Been a Lecturer at the North West University (Potchefstroom campus) since 2002 and is currently the house master of the campus men's residence known as Caput hostel. I have been a house master for the past 6 years.

Marlene Julyan

Marlene Julyan was born as eldest daughter of Willie and Martie van den Berg. She matriculated in 1998 from Potchefstroom Gimnasium. She completed a BSc degree at the former University of the Free State and started afterwards with a B.Pharm at the former PU for CHE. While studying Pharmacy, she did concurrently a Honours and Masters Degree in Latin. She obtained her PhD at the North West University in 2009 with the title “A Phytochemical analysis of some ancient narcotics, with comparative notes on South African folk medical practices” .

 

Mariette Swanepoel

"Real wealth is health” – I have specialised in resistance training for health and weight management and am passionate about all aspects involving; wellness coaching, an holistic approach to weight management and chronic diseases of lifestyle as well as mindful movement.  Through attending varies workshops and conferences, reading literature and other sources I aim to explore all there is and am exciting to learn more of these concepts wherever I go and who ever I meet.  One size doesn’t fit all…the more I learn, the more I see, there is much more to learn and understand…

 

Johan L du Plessis

He holds BSc (Biological Sciences), BSc Hons (Physiology), MSc (Physiology) and PhD (Occupational Hygiene) degrees. He is currently appointed as Director of the Occupational Hygiene and Health Research Initiative (OHHRI) at the NWU. His teaching and learning experience include 23 years of teaching Physiology/Occupational hygiene to undergraduate students, and 18 years to postgraduate students. He has supervised more than 40 post-graduate students (Hons, MSc/MHSc and PhD) who completed their studies in primarily Occupational hygiene.

Hayley Walker-Williams

Dr Hayley Walker-Williams is Deputy Director of the School of Psychosocial Health; Senior Lecturer in the Psychology Subject Group and a registered practicing clinical psychologist within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus in South Africa. She lectures undergraduate and postgraduate students in psychology, with special interest in abnormal psychology, trauma and strengths-based interventions and posttraumatic growth. Dr Walker-Williams has published and presented her work both nationally and internationally.

Hanlie (SJ) Moss

Prof. Hanlie (SJ) Moss is currently the Director of the research focus area: Physical activity, Sport and Recreation (PhASRec) at the North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa and Professor in Human Movement Science. As a Biokineticists she is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and serves on the board of Directors of the Biokinetics Association of Southern Africa in the portfolio for Academic. Before Prof Moss joined the North-West University in 2003, she was the owner and independent practitioner of Moss Biokinetics.

Dorita du Toit

I have been a lecturer and researcher in the field of Physical Education for over 15 years now, I have been an author of various publications (15+ articles and two book chapters) in the field and I have been a supervisor / promotor of five post-doctoral students so far. I have been the principle researcher in two national research projects from which several publications have come forth.

 

Christi Niesing

Dr Christi Niesing started her career at the NWU in 2008 with the appointment as project manager of the Holding Hands income-generating community project. In the time 2008-2016 she developed 4 new sub-projects with a sustainable development outcome in the larger North-West Province. Under her management the project received funding from various corporate funders to develop the projects. She received recognition for her contribution towards excellence in community engagement from various institutions.
