Researchers advocate hypertension awareness and prevention on World Hypertension Day

In recognition of World Hypertension Day, the NWU Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) organised a blood pressure monitoring event as part of the May Measurement Month initiative. The event aimed to raise awareness about hypertension or high blood pressure, shedding light on the importance of early detection and prevention. Distinguished researchers from HART shared valuable insights on hypertension, its risk factors and effective measures to reduce or prevent high blood pressure.

Another international accreditation awarded to the NWU Business School

The North-West University (NWU) Business School recently received its accreditation from the Association of African Business Schools (AABS). The NWU Business School was represented at the 2023 AABS Connect Conference, hosted by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, by the senior manager for Accreditation and Quality, Dr Lungile Ntsizwane.

Major project builds leadership capacity in the Nigerian nutrition sector

The single largest investment in nutrition leadership development ever on the African continent is bearing fruit, and the North-West University (NWU) is playing an important part in it.

The Leadership Development for Accelerated Progress in Nutrition in Nigeria (LEDA-NN) project of R20 million, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is driving change in nutrition, food systems and health in Nigeria.

SABPP honours students

The South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) recently honoured students who successfully registered as members of the board’s student chapter during a ceremony held at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus.

The SABPP is the professional quality and standards body for the human resources profession.

According to Debbie Mtshelwane, Human Resource Management programme leader in the School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management (IPS&HRM), the SABPP certification is highly regarded in the human resources industry.

NWU students get first-hand experience at Nampo Harvest Day

Third- and fourth-year students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Engineering attended the annual NAMPO Harvest Day that took place from 16 to 19 May 2023 at NAMPO Park in Bothaville.

The students were accompanied by Prof Rojanette Coetzee and her postgraduate students Hermé Nel and Jorinda Marais.

The main purpose of attending the event was to provide the students with a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, networking and industry collaboration.

Dr Thapelo Chaacha, programme leader for the Human Resource Management programme, says the event aimed to give third-year and honours’ students an idea of what is expected of them in the world of work within the human resources field.
