Occupational hygiene students visit industry partners

Fourth-year occupational hygiene students and staff from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University (NWU) recently visited two industry partners, enriching their educational experience with real-world insights.

Prof Anja Franken from the subject group Occupational Hygiene says their first stop was at Aquatico Scientific in Centurion.

Competition Commission to deliver public lecture

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Law will host a significant hybrid public lecture on 15 August 2024, featuring the Competition Commission.

The event – themed “25 Years of Competition Law Enforcement in South Africa” – will take place at the Mahikeng Campus and will focus on the commission’s role and achievements over the past 25 years.

Athletes shine at IFBB South African National Championships

Ten athletes from the North-West University's (NWU) Mahikeng Campus bodybuilding team competed in the South African International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) Championships from 1 to 3 August 2024 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The championships saw impressive performances from the NWU athletes, with six out of the 10 participants securing top six finishes in their respective categories.

Crucial win against UWC boosts morale

The North-West University (NWU) football team scored a crucial win in the second round of Varsity Football, defeating the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in an away game.

Displaying confidence and bravery, the NWU secured the victory through Momelezi Mngati, who scored the only goal of the match. Coach Nkululeko Malgas says this victory is a great morale booster.

Vanderbijlpark Campus’ Arts Unit celebrates 20 years of greatness in style

The Arts unit at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently hosted a 2024 Vaal July event, themed “Celebrating 20 Years of Greatness: Student Life Edition”.

This event aimed to honour two decades of excellence by bringing innovation and a commitment to sustainability to life through fashion and performances. Students were tasked to showcase their creativity by creating garments made from recyclable materials.

Internationally acclaimed pharmaceutical business leader receives honorary doctorate

The North-West University (NWU) bestowed an honorary doctorate on internationally renowned pharmaceutical business leader and NWU alumnus Jannie Oosthuizen on Friday, 2 August.

Mr Oosthuizen is recognised for his exceptional contributions to and significant standing in the international health sector, where he is considered a key role player.

Chess champs shine on International Chess Day

Demonstrating exceptional skill and strategic prowess, Innocent Phahlaa and Neo Warambwa secured both the first and third positions in the event.

Law Clinic satellite centre continues to bring hope to Mpumalanga communities

University-based law clinics offer law students a unique opportunity to gain practical legal training through service learning and work-integrated learning. These clinics also provide free legal services to needy and marginalised members of the community who cannot afford the services of a private legal practitioner.

These law clinics engage with communities by informing them of their rights and enabling them to use the law to enforce their rights rather than taking the law into their own hands.
