NWU and SAIGA celebrate an accreditation milestone

The North-West University (NWU) and the Southern African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA) recently celebrated the NWU’s inclusion on SAIGA’s list of accredited universities to contribute towards the certification and development of public sector accountants and auditors.

This means that the NWU is now accredited to offer the Registered Government Auditor (RGA) qualification, which is fully recognised and registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Vanderbijlpark Campus’ IT department gives back to the community

The Information Technology department at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently donated computers to three non-profit companies to support children's educational needs. They donated nine computers to Future Forward Hubs based in Boipatong, nine computers to Matsemela and Tsemane at Boitumelo in Sebokeng, and 14 computers to the Emfuleni Shelter for Boys.

Scholar honoured with prestigious Jan H Marais Prize

Prof Wannie Carstens, an accomplished Afrikaans scholar at the North-West University (NWU), was recently honoured with the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (the South African Academy of Science and Arts) Jan H Marais Prize for his outstanding academic work in Afrikaans.

The prestigious prize ceremony took place at Webersburg farm in Stellenbosch.

Annual dance extravaganza brings community together

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus ended the month of August with an unforgettable dance extravaganza on 31 August 2024, celebrating the dance team’s talent and raising funds for upcoming events.

This annual event at the Great Hall showcased 10 vibrant ballroom and Latin dance styles, including the tango, slow foxtrot and rumba.

Intercampus Staff Wellness Tournament: A day of fun, fitness and team spirit

The energetic atmosphere of the fourth annual North-West University (NWU) Intercampus Staff Wellness Tournament was unmistakable as staff members from the university’s three campuses gathered on 30 August 2024.

Hosted by the Potchefstroom Campus, the tournament was a much-anticipated event on the NWU calendar, bringing together colleagues from across the university for a day filled with sport and laughter.

Celebrating Arbor Week with tree planting ceremonies

In celebration of Arbor Week, held annually from 1 to 7 September, the North-West University (NWU) community planted 20 trees on each of the NWU campuses.

These tree planting ceremonies were also part of the university's 20-year anniversary celebrations, symbolising the enduring legacy of the NWU over the past two decades.

Cutting-edge language application to boost effective communication between healthcare providers and patients

The Faculty of Health Science at the North-West University (NWU) officially launched the Sinapi Language Application during the university’s annual Language Awareness Week on the Potchefstroom Campus on 29 August.

In a collaborative effort, through a service agreement between the NWU and Ambani Africa, this revolutionary language application aims to address the linguistic gap between faculty students and patients during their compulsory work-based learning.
