NWU plays its part in rolling out 6BRICKS® initiative

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Educational Psychology subject group, together with the North West Department of Education, recently reached out to Retlametswe Special School in Mahikeng to empower teachers to better support their learners.

This project forms part of the national Department of Education’s 6BRICKS® initiative, which is implemented through a collaboration with Care for Education and the NWU’s Educational Psychology subject group.

NWU makes young ones dance

Young learners from Stadt Primary will soon be singing and dancing to the music coming from boombox speakers the North-West University (NWU) has donated.

The NWU always strives to improve the teaching and learning environment for learners. In line with this commitment, staff members from the NWU’s Faculty of Education on the Mahikeng Campus recently donated items to the Stadt Primary School to create a better learning environment.

Continuation of interest-rate-raising cycle was inevitable

The statement by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) on 22 September conveyed an understandably hawkish message about the inflation outlook in the economy in the midst of several global and domestic uncertainties.

Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the Business School of the North-West University (NWU), says the majority view was for a 75 basis-point rise in order to progressively re-anchor inflationary expectations. Significantly, two members of the five-person MPC wanted a 100 basis-point hike.

NWU Faculty of Health Sciences congratulates Dr Richard Beteck!

Dr Richard Beteck, of the subprogramme Drug Discovery at the Centre of Excellence for Pharmaceutical Sciences (PharMaCen), has left the Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University (NWU) extremely proud of his latest achievement! Dr Beteck received the runner-up award for best oral presentation at the Annual Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APSSA) of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA), hosted at Rhodes University in Makhanda from 21 to 23 August.

NWU student chapter reaches out to Unathi Community Orphans’ Home

The Student Chapter of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (FNAS) hosted a coin-laying fundraiser event on 7 September 2022.

The aim of this event was to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate, and the money that was collected will be used to purchase food, toiletries and non-perishable items for the Unathi Community Orphans’ Home in Mahikeng.

From a toxic to a greener world: protecting mother nature

“The inaugural lecture ceremony marks the rite of passage into the ranks of a professorship. It is also an occasion that celebrates one’s academic career achievements,” said Prof Jeffrey Mphahlele, North-West University (NWU) deputy vice-chancellor for research and innovation, during the inaugural lecture of Prof Indra Bahadur.

Prof Bahadur from the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences presented his inaugural address – titled “From toxic to greener world” – on 14 September 2022.

NWU Eagles keep soaring

The saying goes - cherish the moment, live your dream and play netball. This is precisely what the NWU Eagles netball team is doing.  

They are off to a strong start in the 2022 Varsity Netball campaign by winning all three of their games. 

On Monday, 19 September, bragging rights went to the NWU Eagles yet again, when they defeated the Nelson Mandela University Madibaz by 84-50. 

The NWU Eagles now occupy the first position on the overall log with 15 points.

According to a 2022 report presented by Universum, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) students associate the university with academic excellence and safety.

Universum is a global data-driven, insight-led employer branding agency that focuses on brand perception based on students’ experience. The agency surveys students and alumni from numerous higher education institutions every year.
