A group of women from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Agricultural Sciences recently reached out to unemployed agriculture graduates to empower and motivate them.

This group, Basadi ba Temo Thuo – which means women in agriculture – hosted an information day at the Mahikeng Campus’s Molelwane Farm.

The purpose of the event, themed "A re fepeng malapa a rona" (Let's take care of our homes), was to provide valuable insights into daily routine management practices within the agricultural sector.

North-West University (NWU) student and bodybuilder Rusmore Verah has been chosen as one of the bodybuilders who will proudly represent South Africa at the upcoming International Fitness and Bodybuilding and Federation (IFBB) World Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.

Scheduled to take place from 31 October to 6 November in Santa Susanna, Barcelona, Spain, this international competition is a dream come true for Rusmore and a testament to his dedication and hard work.

This celebration not only aimed to showcase cultural diversity, but also to reaffirm the NWU’s commitment to embracing and celebrating the multitude of languages and cultures within its community.

As the 2023 Men's Varsity Football competition reaches its pinnacle, the North-West University (NWU) Eagles are gearing up for a crucial showdown against the log leaders, the University of Johannesburg (UJ), in the first semi-final.

The highly anticipated match is set to take place at the UJ Soweto Stadium in Johannesburg on 14 September.

The NWU Eagles, currently holding the fourth position on the league table, have had a season marked by ups and downs. With seven matches played, they secured three wins, and two draws, and suffered two losses.

To foster change and mend bridges, male members of the Student Counselling and Development (SCD) Peer Helper Programme at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently organised an event to promote a more empathetic and supportive environment for women.

The event, aptly named "Transforming MENtalities" took place on 29 August and marked a significant step towards acknowledging the challenges faced by female students.

In a thrilling showdown at the Davidson Stadium in the Eastern Cape, the North-West University (NWU) Eagles soared to victory, securing their place in the 2023 Varsity Football semi-finals.

The Eagles managed to conquer the University of Fort Hare (UFH) with a hard-fought 2-1 win on the home turf of UFH.

North-West University (NWU) alumnus Jennifer Malebogo Dipheko will represent the Ngaka Modiri Molema District at the upcoming National Netball Championships that will take place from 1 to 7 October in Rustenburg.

The better-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 0,6% in the second quarter of 2023 is welcome news, as it has extended its gains for a second consecutive time.

Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the North-West University (NWU) Business School, says this demonstrates a noteworthy degree of resilience in the economy. This has mainly been the outcome of more moderate Eskom blackouts in June compared with April and May, together with other mitigating factors that helped to generate better growth figures.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Social Sciences will be hosting the Planetary Utilisation of Sustainability Strategies (PLUS) Southern African Regional Conference from 11 to 13 September 2023 at its Mahikeng Campus.

The theme of the conference is “Land, landscape, local knowledge, and the pursuit of sustainable ontologies”.

PLUS is a network concerned with aspects of sustainability and is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service. It consists of nine universities in Southern Africa – including the NWU – Latin America and Germany.
