GIFT goes international

A research team from the Global, Innovative, Forefront, Talent (GIFT) Management research niche area in the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (FEMS) recently traveled to Hungary to collaborate with the University of Miskolc.

The trip was financed by the European Union’s Erasmus funding programme which provides for lecturers and students from two countries to visit host universities in a mutually beneficial exchange programme.

Prof Monyeki to represent the Department of Health

The North-West University (NWU) Faculty of Health Sciences commends Prof Andries Monyeki, who has been asked to represent the National Department of Health at an upcoming multi-country World Health Organization (WHO) workshop. This nomination both reflects his expertise and recognises his research contributions to public health policy.

Prof Monyeki has expressed his gratitude, saying that he is "greatly honoured and humbled by this nomination".

The North-West University (NWU) Eagles are determined to display a more clinical performance in their fourth match of the Varsity Football 2023 tournament on 17 August. This comes close on the heels of a 2-1 loss to the Tshwane University of Technology.

NWU Business School empower young entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs from more than 70 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) benefitted from a SME Business Finance Clinic hosted by the North-West University (NWU).

The Small Business Advisory Bureau (SBAB) of the NWU’s Business School, in collaboration with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), recently hosted an SME Business Finance Clinic to empower young entrepreneurs and youth-owned cooperatives.

The primary goal of the clinic was to empower these young entrepreneurs by providing them with essential insights into SME financing and development support.

Faculty of Education launches Busy Bee Kindness Corner

The Faculty of Education at the North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus officially launched the "Busy Bee Kindness Corner" community engagement project on 14 August.

Dr Elize Küng, deputy dean for community engagement and stakeholder relations in the faculty and champion of the project, says the idea for the project came about during a visit to the Kortrijk Campus of the VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Belgium.

SADiLaR director honoured at international conference

The executive director of the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) at the North-West University (NWU), Prof Langa Khumalo, was recently honoured for his contribution to multilingualism at the 1st International Conference on Language, Multilingualism, and Decolonisation Practices in Higher Education.

Organised by the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Academy for Multilingualism, the conference brought together scholars from 18 universities in South Africa, as well as from Namibia, the Netherlands and the United States.
