North-West University (NWU) student and bodybuilder Rusmore Verah has been selected to represent South Africa at the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) World Men’s Bodybuilding Championships that will take place from 23 to 27 September 2024 on Kish Island, Iran.
Rushmore's selection comes after a series of strong performances in various bodybuilding competitions. He recently clinched first place and the overall title in the Men's Physique Over 178 cm category, solidifying his place as one of South Africa's top bodybuilding talents.
Rushmore says being selected means a lot, and itt shows that all the hard work has been worth it. He also emphasises the importance of consistency and dedication, and attributes his success to the efforts of his team and his own commitment to the sport.
His journey in bodybuilding has been marked by several notable achievements. In 2022, he secured the first position in the Sunfest Bodybuilding competition (Men's Physique Over 178 cm), and emerged as the overall winner in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament in the same category. He also earned third place in the IFBB South African Championship Nationals and claimed the top spot in the Mr and Miss West Rand DGN Classic.
In 2023, Rushmore was also selected to be part of the national team for an international event, but visa complications prevented his participation. Despite this setback, he continued to excel, earning recognition as the Sportsman of the Year on the NWU's Mahikeng Campus.
Looking ahead to the upcoming championship in Iran, Rushmore is optimistic and grateful. "It’s a great opportunity for me in my journey to become the best as I compete with international athletes. It shows that I’m on the right track, and I believe that God is with me."
