This victory positions the team as the top women’s football team in the province, a first-time achievement for the NWU.
The NWU ladies exhibited consistent performance throughout the season, competing in Stream B of the league. They played 14 matches, securing 13 wins and drawing one. This strong showing earned them the top spot in their stream and led to their triumph in the provincial playoff championship.
In addition to the team’s overall success, individual players and the coaching staff received accolades. The team’s coach, Azania Moshushu, was named Coach of the Season, recognising her leadership that steered the team to this historic win.
The team’s goalkeeper, Mmabatho Tladi, earned the Goalkeeper of the Season award, acknowledging the vital role she played in the team’s solid defence. Furthermore, Keletso Nemukula, the team’s standout player, was honoured as the Best Player of the Season, highlighting her significant impact on the field.
Coach Moshushu expresses her pride in the team’s achievement. “I am really proud of the girls. Our goal was clear from the beginning of the league, and we managed to accomplish it.”
“From day one, we knew what we wanted to achieve, and the hard work, discipline and commitment from each player have been inspiring. Every training session, every match, the girls gave their all, and this victory is a testament to their dedication.”
