The Faculty of Health Science at the North-West University (NWU) officially launched the Sinapi Language Application during the university’s annual Language Awareness Week on the Potchefstroom Campus on 29 August.

In a collaborative effort, through a service agreement between the NWU and Ambani Africa, this revolutionary language application aims to address the linguistic gap between faculty students and patients during their compulsory work-based learning.

The North-West University's (NWU’s) Golden Key chapter on the Vanderbijlpark Campus, in partnership with Standard Bank, recently  inaugurated new members into the prestigious society.  

The event, held at the Tsebonokeng Hall, was a celebration of academic excellence and served as a platform to recognise and welcome new members into the Golden Key family.

In a powerful demonstration of collaboration, the North-West University (NWU), through its Bhive Enterprise Development Centre (bhive EDC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vaal United Business Forum (VUBF), a non-profit company.

This partnership is set to drive significant community upliftment and create employment opportunities across multiple sectors in the region.

Envisioning community and economic growth

North-West University (NWU) alumnus Chris van Dyk recently received the Southern African Institute for Industrial Engineering’s (SAIIE’s) Best Industrial Engineering Practitioner - Employer's Choice Award.

This award highlights his contributions to the field of agriculture and the respect he has earned from peers and employers as business analyst at Taaibosch Piggery.

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy hosted its Nuclear Energy Summit on 12 September at River Meadow Manor in Irene, Pretoria, and the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), Prof Bismark Tyobeka, made his expert voice heard.

The theme of the summit was “Enhancing Nuclear Technology for Sustainable Development in South Africa”.

The grand finale of the Mr and Miss North-West University (NWU) Vanderbijlpark Campus pageant at the Tsebonokeng Hall highlighted the personalities and strengths of the contestants, culminating in the much-anticipated announcement of the winners.

Students and parents came in large numbers to support their friends and family members competing in the pageant.

On 23 August, in commemoration of Women's Month, elderly residents from nearby assisted living facilities were invited to the Riverside Sun Hotel to attend an informative session, sponsored by the Stakeholder Relations office at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus.

Dr (honoris causa) Masego Ezekiel “Easy” Matjila continues to shine. After receiving an honorary doctorate from the North-West University (NWU) in recognition of his commitment to preserving the Setswana, Sesotho, and Sepedi languages, he received another accolade.

This time Easy was honoured at the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMAs) for his dedication and promotion of the Setswana language in mainstream media for over three decades.

At the 2024 Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) conference in Maputo, Mozambique, Mr Ntiyiso Shabangu, technology transfer specialist at the North-West University (NWU) Technology Transfer and Innovation Support (TTIS) Office, underscored the crucial role of technology transfer offices (TTOs) in conveying the impact of research to diverse stakeholders. His presentation resonated with the theme "It takes a village to raise a child," an African proverb highlighting the communal effort needed for nurturing and development.

The observable part of our universe is 93 billion light years in diameter and growing. It holds secrets accumulated over 13.8 billion years of interstellar expansion, cosmic explosions, and the fusion of matter that has shaped all that is known and all that isn’t. These are numbers that the mind struggles to comprehend. Just think of the research opportunities that await.
