NWU student selected to showcase his modelling talent overseas

North-West University (NWU) student Tumelo Ndlovu has been selected to showcase his modelling talent at the International Arts Talent Showcase.

The 21-year-old model from Mokopane in Limpopo is a third-year BA Behavioural Sciences student at the NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus, and has graced various ramps throughout his modelling career.

NWU empowers learners and unemployed youth through Career Expo

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in Mahikeng recently initiated and hosted a Career Expo to empower learners and unemployed graduates in the Phela and Matlhako regions.

The NWU organised the event together with its strategic partner, the North West Development Corporation (NWDC), and in conjunction with the Pella-Matlhako Development Group (PMDG).

The event, themed “Dream it to be it”, took place on 21 May 2022 at the Bakwena-ba-Morare Tribal Hall.

NWU student wins WorldSkills South Africa national competition

North-West University (NWU) nursing student Tshiamo Mokgoetsi was announced as the winner of the WorldSkills South Africa Occupational Standards national competition that took place from 30 to 31 May 2022 in KwaZulu-Natal.

She will now represent South Africa at the 46th International WorldSkills Competition which will be held from 12 to 17 October 2022 in Shanghai, China.

Tshiamo and fellow student Sakhile Ncobo represented the NWU at the national competition, were they competed with two nursing students from Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Campus of the KZN Nursing College.

NWU Auxilium Fund provides a helping hand

Thanks to the Auxilium Fund on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus, struggling National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) -funded students receive food parcels to help them through difficult times.

The fund, which was initially created to raise money for underprivileged students, has been helping students for the past five years with food parcels after it became clear that they could often not afford to buy their own food.

NWU physical trainer hones his skills with PSL team

Dino Rangaka, physical trainer at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Soccer Institute, recently received an invitation from PSL outfit Stellenbosch FC to hone his skills on physical training.

The training specifically focused on strength training and conditioning. “I went there to learn more about their tactical periodisation, their training loads and how they do their analysis,” says Dino.

NWU ecotoxicology researchers represent Africa on a global scale

A group of 15 researchers from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management recently presented their work at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The theme for the meeting was “Towards a reduced pollution society”.

According to one of the NWU researchers, Dr Hannes Erasmus, a variety of topics were discussed, ranging from laboratory-based studies to field studies in terrestrial, fresh water and marine ecosystems.

Language short learning programme to bring multilingualism to the forefront

Language traverses borders. It connects us, inspires us, educates us and enriches us. It is the fundamental tool that allows us to connect with each other. And, in a diverse, multilingual society, the more we appreciate each other’s native language, the fewer boundaries there will be between us.
