Theology reunion aims to foster long-lasting connections

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Theology organised a special alumni reunion on 10 May 2023 at the Mahikeng Campus.

The purpose of this event was to foster connections among the faculty's alumni, current students and staff, and to encourage their involvement in the NWU Convocation.

During the gathering, Bongani Mahlangu, an executive committee member of the Convocation, addressed the attendees, highlighting the benefits of joining the convocation.

Meeting brings together unified communicators and audiovisual professionals

The inaugural meeting of those working in unified communications (integrators of various communication tools and services) and audiovisual disciplines was a resounding success.

More than 60 delegates from 19 universities and various vendors attended this special interest group* meeting on 13 and 14 April at the North-West University (NWU) Business School in Potchefstroom. The meeting presented a valuable opportunity for networking through shared experiences and insights.

History subject group hosts a seminar on Umkhonto we Sizwe

The subject group History at the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted Prof Thula Simpson, associate professor of history at the University of Pretoria, as part of the group’s seminar series.

Prof Simpson is also a British scholar who holds a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London, and is the author of the acclaimed book, Umkhonto we Sizwe: The ANC's Armed Struggle.

During the seminar Prof Simpson presented a paper titled “Umkhonto we Sizwe and its Historians: Action, Reaction and Counteraction, c. 1963 to the Present”.

NWU joins the fight against diabetes

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University (NWU), together with the subject groups Biochemistry and Physiology, the Lifestyle Diseases research niche area, and the Mahikeng Campus Health Centre hosted a diabetes drive on 10 May 2023 to raise awareness about preventing and managing diabetes mellitus.

This drive forms part of an inter-faculty registered community engagement project.

Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education

Three North-West University (NWU) academics, Dr Sifiso Sibanda, Prof Gideon van Tonder and Prof Washington Dudu are the proud editors of the book Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education institutions: A Focus on 21st-century pedagogical challenges.

The book, which critically examines the role of governments in promoting parity during and in post-pandemic education, is published in open-access format by AOSIS Scholarly Books.

According to Prof Dudu, this comes from the realisation that the pandemic has deepened the crisis.

NWU students reach out to those in need

On 5 May 2023 students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus showed their hearts are in the right place when they reached out to help fellow students in need with their Feed a Student campaign.

The food was donated to a Meal-A-Day project.

This campaign supplements the Meal-A-Day project run across all three of the NWU’s campuses, which gives needy students a month’s supply of essentials, including clothing and toiletries sponsored by Tiger Brands.
