Dr Henriette Hammill, a senior lecturer in biokinetics at the North-West University (NWU) was recently awarded second prize for her outstanding work at the International Federation of Physical and Sports Education (FIEPS) New Leader Congress held in Galati, Romania.
She and a fellow colleague from the subject group Biokinetics successfully applied for the FIEPS New Leader Programme, which granted them the opportunity to present their research at the 75th FIEPS European Congress.
“I am grateful for receiving this esteemed award,” says Dr Hammill.
She adds that this accolade is not only a confirmation of her expertise, but it also provides her with invaluable international networking prospects.

With a PhD in biomechanics from the University of Zululand in 2013, Dr Hammill's academic journey has been marked by excellence. After completing her prior degrees at the NWU, she began her career as a lecturer in 2011 and subsequently ran her own biokinetic practice for three years. During this time, she discovered her passion for orthopaedics.
Her research interests primarily revolve around sports, rehabilitation, orthopaedics, and biomechanics, and she considers herself fortunate to teach students in her beloved field.
Alongside her teaching responsibilities, she actively engages in community service. She supports various community projects, provides consultations to patients, participates in radio interviews on relevant topics, and delivers guest lectures at community events.
Dr Hammill is also involved in several research projects and is diligently building her research portfolio. Driven by her passion for orthopaedics, she continuously explores innovative teaching and learning methodologies to enhance her modules.
She is an active member of the North-West Biokinetics Association of South Africa’s regional committee, specifically focusing on academia.
