NWU launches new Student Information System

The North-West University (NWU) has officially launched its new Student Information System, NWU Student at Crista Galli. The initiative aligns with the NWU's broader digital strategy, streamlining the university’s business processes and providing staff and students with an effective and efficient client-centric service throughout the student academic life cycle.

The event was directed by Mr Clement Manoko, executive director of Corporate Relations and Marketing, who introduced the goals of the project and the speakers.

Vanderbijlpark Campus shines at PMR.africa Awards

The Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU) has been awarded the prestigious Diamond Arrow Award for the 14th consecutive time at the annual PMR.africa Awards.

Awards are presented in four categories: bronze, silver, gold and diamond, with the Diamond Arrow Award representing the highest distinction in the higher education field.

The NWU has been rated as the best higher education institution in the Sedibeng district, which includes the municipalities of Emfuleni, Lesedi and Midvaal.

Ladies football team qualifies for Varsity Football tournament

The North-West University (NWU) Mahikeng ladies football team is starting 2025 in top form and will be competing in the Varsity Football Tournament for the first time.

Their qualification follows a strong performance at the 2024 University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament where they finished third out of 19 teams and earned a bronze medal.

Study explores LEGO® Six Bricks® in teacher training

Workshop explores the establishment of an Agri Hub in North West.

The North-West University (NWU), in partnership with the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, held an extensive three-day workshop on beef beneficiation and goat aggregation from 22 to 24 January at the Mahikeng Campus’ Molelwane Farm.

The workshop aimed to equip agricultural stakeholders in the province with the essential tools and knowledge to conceptualise and establish an Agri Hub that will serve the community effectively.

NWU oversight visit: campus tour and discussion of strategic topics

Monday, 27 January 2025 was not all business as usual at the North-West University (NWU) Potchefstroom Campus. Dignitaries from the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) were hosted for a day-long oversight visit to the notable locations on the campus.

Prof Waldo Krugell: Consequences of Expropriation Bill being exaggerated

On 23 January, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed into law the Expropriation Bill. Simply put, the bill allows the state to expropriate land in the public interest, including without compensation.

The signing of the Bill elicited no little backlash from the public, as well as from certain political parties, while others praised it.

But was all the fanfare warranted? According to Prof Waldo Krugell, the answer is an unequivocal “no”.

The study examines how MTN subscribers in Mahikeng perceive Setswana-language commercials, revealing how local language marketing resonates deeply within communities in South Africa.
