NWU Soccer Institute one game away to qualify for National ABC Motsepe League playoffs

The North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute players, who are in the pole position of qualifying for the National ABC Motsepe League playoffs, are holding their breath for it will be the deciding game for the North West ABC league.

The institute, who is the log leader in stream B of the North West ABC Motsepe League, is scheduled to play one game against stream A log leader, Orbit College FC.

This game is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 2 June 2022 at the NWU Potchefstroom Campus’ Fanie du Toit sports grounds.

NWU mascot Eagi graduates

A secret, closely guarded since 2019, was at long-last revealed during the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Science graduation session on 23 May 2022.

Not only did NWU mascot Eagi graduated with a BSc degree in agriculture and agricultural economics, but his true identity was revealed.

Kabelo Mathope, wearing the iconic grey, blue and purple mascot sneakers, got a standing ovation from the crowd as he was announced as Eagi, the iconic mascot.

NWU academic inducted as fellow of Nigeria Academy of Science

North-West University (NWU) academic Prof Olubukola Oluranti Babalola was elected a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) during its annual general meeting earlier this year.

She was formally inducted as fellow, along with 10 international distinguished scientists on 12 May 2022.

The NAS fellow induction is one of the highest honours of the academy, and each fellow receives a certificate and gold medal.

NWU academic elected as chairperson of South African Indian Ocean Academic Group

Kgame Molope, a programme leader in the subject group Political Studies and International Relations on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus, was recently elected to serve a two-year term as chairperson of the group of South African academics representing the country in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

Before his election, Kgame served as the co-chair of the Trade and Investment Facilitation sub-group of the South African Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group (SA IORAG).

NWU student receives Golden Key Award for community service

North-West University (NWU) master’s student Obriel Maposa has been awarded a Golden Key Humanitarian / Service Response Award.

This award is presented to Golden Key International Honour Society members who display an exceptional commitment to service.

Obriel is among nine Southern African category winners who received Golden Key International Honour Society Awards.

Obriel says Golden Key members are invited to apply for the various award categories, thereby affording them the opportunity to win the relevant award and accompanying cash prizes.

Young entrepreneur takes haircare products to the world

For this young woman entrepreneurship is a way of life. North-West University (NWU) master’s student in chemistry, Paula Maseko, recently started her own business by producing and selling haircare products.

Paula, who hails from Lonelypark in Mahikeng, started her business in 2020 in her mother’s garage. With a few pots, bowls, a hand blender and a two-plate stove, Buhle Bomqhele hair cream and growth oil were born.
