North-West University (NWU) alumnus Advocate Dineo Mongwaketse has recently been appointed as the first-ever female manager for the Mahikeng local municipality, and assumed office on 1 August.
Advocate Mongwaketse recently graduated with an LLM degree from the NWU. She also holds an LLB and MBA degree from the NWU, as well as a BTech in internal auditing and a national diploma in internal auditing from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. After completing her LLB degree, she served pupillage at the North West Bar Association.
Prior to this appointment, Adv Mongwaketse was practicing as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa. She previously worked as a Chief Audit Executive Manager: Internal Audit, and Assistant Director: Internal Audit.
She is looking forward to bringing about change, especially with regard to the upliftment of women.
“I have mixed feelings when looking at the socio-economic issues that are mainly affecting women in our country. I believe women are and have been poor, and often carry more financial burdens compared to their male counterparts. I hope to inspire women to take action in their lives, and to remind them that they are indeed strong and can overcome the obstacles in their paths.”
