The North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute has booked a place in the ABC Motsepe League national promotion playoffs semi-final. This came after they thrashed early tournament favourites Summerfield Dynamos from Kwazulu-Natal 3-1 on 16 June 2022 in Potchefstroom.
On Wednesday, the NWU won their first game of the ABC Motsepe League national promotion playoffs against Mpumalanga side Bayern by 1-0. The NWU goal in this match was scored by Lindani Nkabinde.
The two wins led to the NWU finishing top of Group C with six points. They will now join MM Platinum from Gauteng, Spear of the Nation from Eastern Cape, and Magesi FC from Limpopo in the tournament semi-finals, which will be played today,17 June at Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom.
NWU Soccer Institute coach Karabo Masehela says the game against Summerfield Dynamos was very intense.
“The tempo is very high in these national playoffs - every team, every province is gunning for the first position.
“Now we are on to the next phase, which is the semi-finals. It’s another different ball game altogether. We are ready and hungrier,” he adds.
ABC Motsepe National Playoffs semi-finals
MM Platinum from Gauteng will play Spear of the Nation of the Eastern Cape in the first semi-final on 17 June 2022 at 11:00.
Magesi FC of Limpopo will face the NWU in the second semi-final at 15:00.
