Vanderbijlpark Campus honours decades of dedication at Long-Service Awards ceremony

A spirit of gratitude and celebration filled the Tsebonokeng Hall on the Vanderbijlpark Campus as the North-West University (NWU) honoured staff members for their years of dedicated service.

The annual Long-Service Awards ceremony followed the official academic opening and brought together staff and campus leadership in recognition of commitment, loyalty and institutional excellence.

Cricket dreams take flight for Vanderbijlpark Campus duo

Two North-West University (NWU) Vanderbijlpark Campus students have made their mark on the national cricket scene, proudly representing the Sedibeng District at the CSA Senior Inland Rural Week 2025 in Mpumalanga.

Brian Kubayi (22), an honours degree student in Public Governance and Sports Portfolio member of the Student Campus Council (SCC), and Nkosinathi Tshabalala (20), a second-year BA Education student, stood out from a fiercely competitive selection process to join a 14-member squad, facing off against the top rural cricket talent of the country.

Emfuleni Municipality invests in NWU students through bursary partnership

The Emfuleni Local Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement and student success by awarding bursaries to two North-West University (NWU) students during a ceremony held recently at its offices in Vanderbijlpark.

NWU players power Sedibeng to unbeaten national netball title

North-West University (NWU) students played a role in the outstanding performance of Sedibeng Netball at the 2025 SPAR National Netball Championships, where the district team finished unbeaten and claimed the B3 section title.

The Netball South Africa-sanctioned tournament was hosted by the Ekurhuleni District at Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen in Boksburg and featured district teams from across the country.

First-years build early team spirit during Sport Fair

The Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU) was filled with the sounds of friendly competition and excitement on Wednesday 4 February as first-year students participated in a recreational sports fair to build team spirit.

As part of the orientation programme, which began on Saturday 31 January, the sports fair gave new students the chance to experience campus life through sport and social interaction.

Third annual master’s-degree retreat strengthens postgraduate research skills

The School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management at the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted its third annual Master’s Research Retreat, bringing together more than 30 first-year master’s degree students for an intensive two-day academic experience. The retreat took place at Woodlands Country Lodge in Parys.

Mandisa Mazibuko is planting the future, one field at a time

Mandisa Mazibuko is more than a North-West University (NWU) alumnus – she is a changemaker, a role model and a trailblazer in African agriculture.

Her legacy is not just in what she has achieved, but in how she is inspiring others to step into the field, plant their own seeds of purpose and grow something greater.

Her love for agriculture was cultivated long before she set foot on a university campus. Growing up in a farming community, Mandisa was introduced to livestock farming by her grandfather, a dedicated farmworker.
