Celebrating 10 years of excellence in applied risk management

The Centre for Applied Risk Management (UARM) at the North-West University (NWU) recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its master’s-degree programme in behavioural risk work.

The theme, "Celebrating 10 years of excellence in applied risk management", was inspired by the programme’s pioneering role in offering an applied risk management course in South Africa. At the time it was introduced, only two other universities abroad offered a similar course, making the NWU's initiative a significant milestone in the region.

Alumnus clinches top position at National Teaching Awards

Itumeleng Komane, a graduate of the North-West University (NWU) Vanderbijlpark Campus and a dedicated teacher at the Sunrise View Secondary School, recently achieved a significant milestone by securing the top position in the prestigious Excellence in Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning category at the National Teaching Awards.

His story serves as an inspiration to teachers and learners, demonstrating the transformative power of passionate and committed teaching.

NWU hosts ground-breaking 3MT and postgraduate showcase competition, celebrating research excellence

In an exciting first the Research and Postgraduate Support Department, in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning, hosted a combined Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition and the Postgraduate Students Showcase (PSS). This dual event, held on 3 October 2024 at the scenic Roots Lifestyle Café, spotlighted the innovative research being conducted by honours-degree, master’s-degree and doctoral-degree students across various faculties.

NWU to host annual Student Social Work Conference 2024

The subject group Social Work at the North-West University (NWU) is preparing to host the highly anticipated Student Social Work Conference 2024. Scheduled to take place on 25 October 2024, the conference will carry the theme "Strengthening Foundations for Social Work's Critical Challenges".

The conference will take place from 08:00 until 16:00 on all three campuses and is linked to the BSWP471 module. It is a key part of the assessment and is expected to draw around 80 delegates, including partners, supervisors, stakeholders and students.

2024 Geekulcha Internal Hackathon empowers through digital innovation

The North-West University's (NWU’s) bhive Enterprise Development Centre, in partnership with Mindworx, recently hosted the 2024 Geekulcha Internal Hackathon on the Vanderbijlpark Campus.

The six-day event, themed "Empowering the Vaal through digital innovation", highlighted the tremendous potential of digital innovation in addressing local community challenges.

Humanities Spring School a resounding success

The Faculty of Humanities at the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted a its first International Spring School. The event, held at the Khaya Ibhubesi Conference venue in Parys, saw 165 higher-degree students, promoters, and researchers from various South African institutions in attendance, making it a truly enriching and collaborative experience.

Mini-Cricket festival showcases young talent

The North-West University's (NWU’s) Sports Business Management Department recently hosted a Mini-Cricket festival as part of a community engagement initiative, aiming to promote youth participation in sports, particularly cricket, among primary school students in the Vaal Triangle region.

The event took place at the NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus and was a resounding success, drawing in participants and spectators from all over the region. It provided a wonderful opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talents and engage in friendly competition.

UARM celebrates 10 years of excellence

Congratulations to the newly inaugurated Vanderbijlpark’s Student Campus Council

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently inaugurated its Student Campus Council (SCC) members for the 2024/25 term.

During this significant event, the new SCC members were officially welcomed into office in the presence of their constituencies. During the ceremony, members took an oath, pledging their commitment to addressing the issues faced by students and ensuring their voices are heard.
