NWU student scoops another Golden Key award

North-West University (NWU) student Obriel Takunda Maposa recently added another Golden Key International Honour Society award to his list.
He was announced one of three South African winners of the society’s Professional Development Award.
Last year he also secured first prize for the Golden Key Ubuntu Scholarship Programme worth R30 000.
The Professional Development Awards, which include a scholarship of $750 USD each, aims to subsidise and showcase Golden Key members in support of their lifelong journey with the prestigious society.

NWU and DSI continue to raise awareness on indigenous knowledge

In 2020 the North-West University (NWU) joined forces with the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) to start raising awareness about and to position, develop and promote indigenous knowledge systems – and in particular the Indigenous Knowledge Act (IK Act) and the Bio-cultural Community Protocol (BCP*) – in South Africa.

Alternative measures for discharging debt under the spotlight

Many South Africans drowning in debt could be thrown a potential lifeline following a study by North-West University (NWU) master’s degree graduate Paballo Mothibi into the discharging (cancelling) of the debts of those who have no income or assets.

The topic of the study is “Alternative measures for the discharge of debts for over-indebted persons under debt-related legislation in South Africa”.

Moms and children behind bars have pros and cons

In South Africa, a woman can live with her child at a correctional facility while serving time for the crimes she has committed. This is permitted for the first two years of the child’s life and allows the mother and child to bond.

According to a study conducted by Belinda Ruzvidzo, a North-West University (NWU) LLM graduate, children living in prisons experience some negative emotional and physical effects.
