In a wake-up call to employers in the mining sector, a master’s study by Kholiswa Bridget Mogoeng, an academic at the North-West University's (NWU’s) subject group Human Resource Management, has highlighted the importance of addressing employee expectations and providing opportunities for growth. This will bolster retention rates and cultivate a talented workforce that contributes to the success and sustainability of the industry.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Career Centre recently hosted its annual career fair across its three campuses.

The aim of this event is to bring together students and potential employers in a centralised location to facilitate networking and information sharing, and to share recruitment opportunities.

The newly built Tsebonokeng Hall on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark was officially opened on 29 May 2023.

Located on the site of the old Building 24, which used to be the administration building, construction of the hall started in July 2022 and was completed in March 2023.

Postgraduate students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng and Potchefstroom campuses impressed again at the 10th International Student Conference in Tourism Research (ISCONTOUR) that took place on 15 and16 May 2023 at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Austria.

The NWU walked away with the Best Paper award for the fourth time, and also won second place in the Best Paper category this year.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Afrocentric Governance of Public Affairs (AGoPA) research focus area recently hosted its inaugural public lecture titled “Mainstreaming South Africa and Africa - the G20 Agenda: Implications for research in higher education” as well as a roundtable discussion titled “BRICS Expansion: Challenges and Prospects”.

North-West University (NWU) Setswana lecturer Reoikantse Shuping believes that the current approach to the standardisation of Setswana orthography needs to be revisited.

Reoikantse graduated on 17 May 2023, with a MA degree in Setswana.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously decided on 25 May to increase interest rates by a further 50 basis points (bsp), citing risks to the inflation outlook as still being on the upside. The MPC’s major concerns continue to revolve around the possible second-round effects of higher headline inflation and exchange rate risks.

The NWU’s first Media and Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) Recognition Awards ceremony took place at the Roots function venue in Potchefstroom. Eighteen key influencers received recognition for their valued contributions as brand ambassadors, both internally and externally. Each of the recipients received a trophy, accompanied by a cash prize.

Reston Mawononga, a third-year social work student at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus, has been announced the winner of the 2022 Golden Key Outstanding Member Award.

This award celebrates outstanding Golden Key (GK) members who demonstrate exceptional achievement in all three of the GK pillars, namely academic performance, leadership and community service.

Reston says he is honoured to be recognised as an outstanding member of this remarkable society.
