The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Student Counselling and Development (SCD) division on the Vanderbijlpark Campus rallied up staff and students to support Slipper Day on 31 May.
Slipper Day is an annual fundraising event organised by Reach For A Dream that sees everyone from school children to corporate teams wear their slippers and Slipper Day stickers – all in support of seriously ill children who are in desperate need of hope and encouragement.
The theme for this year's Slipper Day was "Step into My Slippers," focusing on empathy, fun and stepping into the shoes of youngsters fighting life-threatening illnesses. By trading shoes for slippers, participants demonstrated support and solidarity with these courageous children, reminding them that they are not alone in their fight.
Event organiser Matshotetsi Tsotetsi from SCD says the event was a huge success.
“It was heartwarming to see the campus community coming together to support such a worthy cause. Students and staff truly embodied the spirit of empathy and compassion, reflecting our university's core values."
"By participating in this noble cause the university community made a positive impact,” says Chris Williams, director for student life on the campus.
“It's truly inspiring to see university members coming together to support this cause with collective effort and generosity. I believe that our actions will have a lasting and meaningful impact in the lives of those in need."
