NWU lauds staff and students for promoting its values and brand

Living the North-West University (NWU) way means to be value-driven and proud. During a prestige event on 25 May the university rewarded dedicated staff and students for promoting and enhancing its culture and strategy.

The NWU’s first Media and Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) Recognition Awards ceremony took place at the Roots function venue in Potchefstroom. Eighteen key influencers received recognition for their valued contributions as brand ambassadors, both internally and externally. Each of the recipients received a trophy, accompanied by a cash prize.

Excelsior Men’s residence incident May 2023

The North-West University (NWU) has noted a video that has been shared on some social media platforms regarding some of our students’ urination incident. The incident is alleged to have occurred on Saturday, 20 May 2023, at our Potchefstroom Campus. We condemn this alleged incident harshly. Our Protection Services Department is investigating the incident and will report its findings to the University Management very soon. The perpetrators will be dealt with decisively.

Repositories pivotal for language preservation

Two researchers from the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) at the North-West University (NWU) share their findings on the existence, use and importance of language repositories in the latest issue of the Journal of the Digital Humanities Association of Southern Africa (DHASA), a peer-reviewed open-access journal of DHASA.

Allegations of exclusion from the official welcoming event at the North-West University

On Saturday, 11 February 2023, allegations surfaced that first-year students from the town residences were excluded from the official welcoming event in the Amphitheatre on the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU). According to the allegations, the decision was due to the lack of diversity within these residences.

Tottenham tourism saga: Right idea, wrong focus

A proposed three-year deal by the Department of Tourism and SA Tourism to sponsor English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur has caused widespread consternation and has received plenty of condemnation in what many deem an ill-thought venture.

According to Prof Peet van der Merwe from the research unit TREES (Tourism Research in Economic Environs and Society) at the North-West University (NWU), this amount could have been better used for other tourism purposes.

The dream of the North-West University (NWU) to be an internationally recognised university was recently given a boost by the appointment of its principal and vice-chancellor as adjunct professor at one of the top universities in the United States of America.

Theology professor makes inroads with much needed contextualisation discourse

Prof Alfred Brunsdon from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Theology recently received a C2-rating from the National Research Foundation. What makes this recognition noteworthy is the niche area of his research which is discrepancies between academic content and cultural contexts of African theology students.

Further information regarding the handling of an alleged incident related to a female residence on the Potchefstroom Campus

The North-West University (NWU) management is seriously concerned about the allegations which surfaced over the past weekend about the programme proceedings of a residence event on the Potchefstroom Campus. The programme allegedly excluded some students from participating and feeling welcome at the event.

On Wednesday, 7 September, the North-West University (NWU) recognised two outstanding individuals for their grit, determination and perseverance during the 2022 Comrades Marathon. This took place during an event at which outgoing Council members were honoured for their contribution and services to the NWU.

NWU welcomes new SRC members

The North-West University (NWU) welcomes its newly elected Student Representative Council (SRC) that officially took office on 6 September.

The incumbent SRC will serve for a period of one year under the leadership of the SRC president, Yikumba Andreas, a graduate in Management Sciences and Marketing Management, and a current bachelor’s degree student in Economic Sciences with Economics and Risk Management.
