Hypertension

Prof Shani Le Roux

Prof Le Roux is an Associate Professor in the field of Human Physiology, appointed at the North-West University since February 2014. She teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students and performs research as part of the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) at the South African Medical Research Council: Unit for Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease at the North-West University.

Yolandi Breet

Prof Yolandi Breet is an associate professor and researcher in the field of Cardiovascular physiology and is also the subject leader of Physiology. Her research focuses on factors leading to the development of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Her specific interests include large artery stiffness and early vascular aging.

Alta Schutte

Alta (Aletta E.) Schutte is Professor of Physiology, and funded by the Department of Science and Technology as the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in the Early Detection and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in South Africa – hosted by the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) at the North-West University. She is also the Unit Director of Medical Research Council Extramural Unit for Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease.

Hugo (HW) Huisman

Prof HW Huisman performs his research in the field of cardiovascular physiology, especially on factors related to changes in vascular structure and function in the development of hypertension.  Although the research is mainly done in low socio-economic communities of South Africa this work also contributes to the existing body of knowledge regarding vascular dysfunction, arterial stiffness and early vascular aging.
