Prof Dan Kgwadi, the vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), has once again put the spotlight on students living with disabilities.

It is once again time for the annual NWU Junior Basketball Tournament as hosted by the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark. This year will see teams from across South Africa taking to the basketball court from 28 to 30 July 2017.

Joné Kruger (19), a pharmacy student from the North West University (NWU) is the new African Heptathlon champion. She won the title at the recent Junior African Games in Tlemcen, Algeria.The Junior African Games are held every two years for African athletes under the age of 20.

This event – which is regarded as one of the highlights of the organised student life calendar – represents a dynamic collaboration between the Campus Student Representative Council (CSRC), affiliated student bodies and the campus’s Alumni Office.

Stephen Moeketsi, a third-year BEd student and avid karateka, has earned himself a spot in the South African student team that will compete in the Karate World Union Championships in Russia later this year.
