Finding practical solutions to the critical challenges of water management and climate change in the Ngaka Moridi Molema District of the North West Province is the main purpose of a three-day symposium being hosted at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus from 3 to 5 December.

“This symposium is about bringing people together to find practical, community-driven solutions,” says Dr Naledi Seheri from the Chemistry subject group and one of the event organisers.

Nuclear technology is a powerful instrument, and research has shown that it can have a significant impact on disease prevention and treatment. An extraordinary professor at the North-West University (NWU) and specialist in nuclear technology – in radiochemistry in particular – is one of 44 leading scholars and scientists to be inaugurated as new members of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).

From 08 to 10 November 2024, the Students' Representative Council (SRC) of North-West University (NWU) participated in an annual strategic planning and training workshop. Organised by the office of the executive director: student life, the workshop aimed to equip SRC members with the knowledge, skills, and strategic direction needed for their leadership roles in the upcoming term.

In commenting on the latest Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) statement to again reduce the repo rate by 25 basis points (bps), Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the North-West University (NWU) Business School, says it was widely anticipated that the MPC would continue its cautious stance on easing monetary policy.

Daily Thetha, a South African youth TV talk show serves as a vital platform for young people to openly discuss social, economic and political issues. This is according to Ofentse Ngake, a lecturer and researcher in the School of Communication at the North-West University (NWU).

Several athletes and coaches from the North-West University (NWU) have been recognised for their outstanding achievements in sports, earning nominations for the North West Sports Awards. The event is set to take place on 23 November at the Rio Casino Hotel in Klerksdorp.

The nominees include Paralympian and 800 m world record holder Liezel Gouws, Paris Olympics silver medallist Jo-Anne van Dyk, coach of the Mahikeng Campus women’s football team Azania Moshushu, and long-distance runner Elroy Gelant.

The South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) will be celebrating the official opening of its building at the North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus on Friday, 22 November 2024. The event will also see the launch of SADiLaR’s Five-Year (2024-2029) Strategic Plan and a special book publication of the centre’s eight-year history.

The corporate publications of the North-West University (NWU) have excelled in this year’s South African Publication Forum competition.

It is a proud achievement for the university in its pursuit of excellence. In addition to receiving two certificates of excellence, two wins, a runner-up position, and two special mentions, the corporate publications also produced five finalists in four categories.
