The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Noble Boys will play against Varsity Football log leaders, the University of Johannesburg (UJ), in a do or die encounter on 6 September 2018 at the NWU Mahikeng Sports Grounds.

Dr Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe, a postdoctoral fellow and researcher on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng, was announced as one of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans by African Youth Awards on 4 September 2018.

The Tourism Society of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Tourism Management recently hosted a tourism awareness walk on the campus in Mahikeng in celebration of September as Tourism Month.

Excitement was the order of the day during the 2018 rendition of the Eureka School’s Special Sports Day. The event saw more than 400 participants – some from as far as Bloemfontein and Secunda – taking part in the annual event for mentally and physically challenged youngsters. This year also saw the North-West University (NWU) joining in the activities on 31 August 2018.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubani, will launch the Mahikeng Astronomy Telescope (MAT) at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng on Friday 7 September. This puts the institution on a par with well-established institutions such as the universities of the Western Cape and Cape Town.

With Women’s Month still fresh in our minds, what better time to introduce a phenomenal woman who has earned her stripes in advocating for the advancement and protection of women and their role in society?

Earlier this year, Statistics SA stated that over six million South Africans are currently unemployed. With the country’s current economic climate resulting in shrinking opportunities for formal employment, more and more South Africans are turning to entrepreneurship.

Opportunity should be without bias. There is a dearth of female entrepreneurs in the country and the North-West University (NWU) is addressing this problem through the Enterprising Women Programme (EWP).

South African policy makers and researchers are in agreement: a thriving small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) sector is the key to job creation, economic sustainability and ultimately positive growth. With the National Development Plan (NDP) predicting that by 2030 SMMEs will generate 90% of the 11 million new jobs targeted, the future could be very bright.

The Optentia Research Focus Area on the North-West University’s campus in Vanderbijlpark, is currently planning a research day on 26 September, themed “Cultivating humanity: Generating and sharing evidence”.
