“Welcome home, alumni!” With these words Prof Linda du Plessis, deputy vice-chancellor of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, recently welcomed members of the Young Alumni fraternity back to the campus for the annual NWU Alumni Homecoming event.

The countdown for one of the most anticipated student events of the year has begun, and in less than two weeks, students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark will be getting together for RAG 2017.

The North-West University (NWU) recently played host to the International Society for History Didactics (ISHD) and the South African Society of History Teaching (SASHT) at the first ever international conference related to history and education in Southern Africa.

The ongoing standoff between police and protesters on parts of the busy R59 road near Meyerton in the South of Gauteng is not only halting traffic, but also the Vanderbijlpark’s ability to grow economically and to attract investors.

The small town of Meyerton, 15km north of Vereeniging in Gauteng, is bearing the brunt of unrelenting protest action over housing issues. The latest development saw frustrated residents of the Sicelo Township dug a large trench across a section of road on the R59 highway, causing heavy traffic delays.
