The dance team from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently participated in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Dance Sport Championships and once again walked away with the spoils.

The tournament was hosted at the Mahikeng Campus from 26 to 30 June, and the team competed against 10 esteemed South African universities in five categories - Ballroom, Latin, Themed Opening Production, Team Match and Team Formation.

Throughout her literary journey, Tlhokomelo Khusu, hailing from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, has emerged as a prominent symbol of resilience and healing. As an alumnus of the North-West University's (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus and a psychology graduate she expertly integrates her academic foundation with her creative acumen to provide perspectives on human development and rehabilitation.

On 24 May 2024 the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Convocation hosted a public discussion themed “Battle for the youth vote – 30 years into democracy”.

Held at the NWU’s Mahikeng Campus and moderated by ExCo of Convocation member Bongani Mahlangu, attendees had the opportunity to engage with political party representatives on the coming election. The parties in attendance included the African National Congress, Economic Freedom Fighters, Patriotic Alliance, Rise Mzansi, Forum 4 Service Delivery and uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Language Directorate recently hosted the launch of Tuelo Gabonewe's book, Dirurubele, at its Mahikeng Campus.

Tuelo was born in Sekhing in 1985 and is a novelist, children's author, screenwriter, filmmaker and TV producer based in Pretoria. Dirurubele is the sequel to his erotic novel Dinotshi, published by Xarra Books in 2020.

The Aerobics club on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus has had a remarkable competitive season, showcasing their talent and hard work at two major recent events.

Their impressive performances have earned them top positions and a chance to compete on a national stage.

On 13 April 16 members of the club participated in the BDS International Aero Showcase Marathon, hosted by Black Diamond Steve (BDS) to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

In a sincere effort to engage with the community and champion the preservation of libraries, dedicated staff from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus library recently visited the Mahikeng Radio station.

This visit was perfectly timed with the celebration of South African Library Week. The theme for this year was "Libraries fostering social cohesion", which aimed to highlight the essential role libraries play in bringing communities together and promoting harmony.

The recent Live Well and Wise health and wellness expo, an initiative hosted by the Health and the Student Counselling and Development centres on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mafikeng Campus, aimed to remind students that their health is their responsibility.

To support them in this endeavour, the centres brought together various stakeholders from the local community to provide essential health information.

Africa is facing a challenge in ensuring food security due to contamination of agricultural products by toxic fungi and their byproducts, mycotoxins, amid climate change.

This is according to Prof Mulunda Mwanza, who delivered his inaugural lecture at the North-West University (NWU) on 6 June 2024.

"Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by fungi such as Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium, which infect staple crops including maize, peanuts, wheat, rice and various tree nuts,” he explained.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mathlogonolo Bodibe’s fancy footwork and passion for dance recently took her to the international stage.

Mathlogonolo, a second-year BA communication student, participated in the annual DanceStar World Dance Masters competition that took place from 20 to 26 May in Croatia

Her dedication paid off and she achieved notable placements: she came seventh out of 20 competitors in the solo category and was third in the open formation category.

The North-West University (NWU) made a significant mark at the North West Provincial Nursing Awards held on 23 May 2024 at the Sun City Convention Centre.

The event, organised by the North West Department of Health, recognised outstanding contributions and excellence in the nursing profession. These awards also show appreciation for the dedication and selflessness of nurses in the province, and motivate them to uphold and improve the standards of nursing education and practice in the North West province.
