With her soothing voice, shining personality and entertainer’s flair, Verona Goslett is fast becoming a South African household name.

It is with great sadness that the North-West University (NWU) community learned about the passing of the 85-year old Prof Tjaart van der Walt during the night of 22 February 2019.

Since 2007, Peter Dashboy Khoza, have kidnapped several young girls between the ages of eight and 14, and took them to the bushes in the Phalaborwa, Tembisa and Soweto areas.

He is a man who likes his filtered coffee, is not one for too many formalities and believes in making the most of his time. This is Prof Daryl Balia, the newly appointed deputy vice-chancellor for the campus in Potchefstroom.

They call him Moses, Father Christmas, Manjafika, but actually this impressive man with the snow-white hair is a rock, which as a matter of fact is also what his name means in Sesotho. Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg shares some of his highlights, anecdotes, challenges and special moments from his term as deputy vice-chancellor on the campus in Potchefstroom.

With his glass of white wine and ice in his hand, his eyes sparkling with life, he sometimes interrupts himself to share one of his hundreds of stories (with all the facts, dates and names) at the North-West University (NWU).

The Alumni Office of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark recently welcomed more than a 100 professional teachers – all alumni of the university – on the banks of the Vaal River for an interactive workshop and networking session.
