Fourth-year Setswana students on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus celebrated Heritage Day by embracing the Setswana language as future Setswana educators.

The celebration aimed to remind students of their heritage, to encourage them to learn more about other cultures and to recognise the importance of languages.

“We celebrate our heritage by embracing our different cultural beliefs and using our different languages,” said Ellen Nkwe, Setswana lecturer.

Four music students from the North-West University (NWU) recently departed for a five-month study trip to Stockholm in Sweden.

This is part of the Linnaeus-Palme Exchange Programme funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), with additional funding from the Hillensberg Trust.

This is the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 that NWU students were able to travel and take part in the exchange programme.

This annual event takes place across campuses, and aims to showcase the NWU's cultural diversity, to broaden horizons, to strengthen respect for each other, and to enable the renewal of ideas. This year’s theme was “Multilingualism: a powerful resource for inclusion and academic development”.

The Film and Production Board (FPB), in conjunction with the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Communication, recently hosted a roadshow as part of an open dialogue with students on online harm, cyber safety and content classification.

The objective of the roadshow, that took place on the NWU’s Mahikeng Campus, was to provide the youth with a platform to share their input on policy matters that affect them.

This webinar analysed the country’s stance and the extensive criticism it received on its decision not to vote on three United Nations General Assembly resolutions condemning Russia's intervention within Ukraine - with both the United States of America and the Russian Federation equally vying for support from South Africa.

Mojalefa Motaung, North-West University's (NWU's) outgoing Vanderbijlpark Student Campus Council (SCC) president and Student Representative Council (SRC) deputy president, has his sights set on making his mark in the business world. The 22-year-old owns Roar Clothing, a thriving clothing line.  

Everyone interested in digital humanities is in for a double treat.

The Digital Humanities Association of Southern Africa (DHASA) will be hosting a summer school from 31 October to 3 November 2022, followed by the inaugural digital humanities conference organised by the North-West University's (NWU's) Faculty of Humanities from 2 to 4 November 2022.

During the summer school a series of courses will cover a wide range of topics related to the digital humanities field, which is a relatively new research field in South Africa.

Jodey Adrian Foster, president of the Enactus team on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, is over the moon. This is after Ford selected his team to attend the Enactus international competition in Puerto Rico.

The NWU participated in the national competition on 14 July at the Sandton Convention Centre. The Central University of Technology won the national competition and will represent South Africa and compete in the international competition in Puerto Rico.

North-West University (NWU) alumnus and Miss NWU 2018 Taahirah Zungu will represent South Africa at the Miss Intercontinental World pageant that will take place in Egypt later this year.

This is after she was crowned as Miss Intercontinental South Africa for 2022 during a pageant held at Gold Reef City on 20 August 2022.

Originally from Mahikeng,Taahirah has completed two qualifications at the NWU, a diploma in sports coaching and a BHSc degree in sports coaching and human movement sciences.
