NWU’s McTronX is at the forefront of dynamic modelling and control of large-scale industrial systems

 The North-West University’s (NWU’s) McTronX research group has been at the forefront of dynamic modelling and the control of large scale industrial systems since 2003.

Led by Prof George van Schoor, the group is multi-disciplinary and comprises four full-time staff members. These staff members include Prof Kenny Uren, who specialises in systems modelling and control, Dr Henri Marais, who specialises in embedded systems and process monitoring, and Prof André Grobler, who specialises in thermal modelling of electrical machines and electrical machine design.

Greig’s career is in the fast lane at Tesla

Working for Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. is a dream come true for North-West University (NWU) alumnus Greig Swanepoel.

Greig works for electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where he is an application engineer for residential energy products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Tesla's current products include electric cars, battery energy storage from home to grid scale, solar panels and solar roof tiles, as well as other related products and services.

Whisper’s PhD research could help South African industry embrace digital transformation

Just as offices, shops, classrooms and lecture halls are embracing digital transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, so must the manufacturing industry. Known as Industry 4.0 or I4.0, the transformation is essential for the sustainability of local manufacturing. This prompted a PhD Engineering student at the North-West University (NWU) to help the South African industry develop the skills and competencies needed for a digital future.
