Public lecture explores embracing the technological revolution for positive organisational pratices

Prof Llewellyn van Zyl, extraordinary professor at the North-West University's (NWU’s) Optentia research unit, recently delivered a public lecture titled "Embracing the technological revolution".

Prof Van Zyl, a positive psychologist specialising in developing, implementing and evaluating positive psychological interventions, explored the concept of Positive Organisational Psychology (POP) and its potential to reshape the discourse of the discipline.

American vet completes nine years of voluntary service at NWU

Dr Rebecca Quam, an American veterinarian, will soon conclude nine years of voluntary service at the NWU, leaving an indelible mark on both the institution and the local community.

Affiliated with the Christian Veterinary Mission, Dr Quam brought not only her wealth of experience in companion animal medicine but also a deep passion for teaching to the university.

Library director shares her IT expertise internationally

A new generation of fact-fascinated consumers and fast-paced technological developments, especially in the artificial intelligence (AI) realm, has made it paramount for libraries to collaborate in order to ensure survival.

Collaboration between libraries locally and internationally, and also between various disciplines such as information technology (IT) and engineering, will equip libraries to tackle the challenges of a new world.

The Hillensberg Trust is the gift that keeps giving

For the past seven years, the Hillensberg Trust has made the dreams of several North-West University (NWU) students come true.

Celeste Rossouw, acting director for development and fundraising explains that the trust increased its grant amount by one million, which means this year the NWU can put four million to good use to assist approximately 35 students.

Beyond stigma: insights from experts in a specialised HIV/AIDS online seminar event

On Monday, 4 December 2023, South Africa’s biggest self-administered medical scheme, Bestmed, hosted a webinar in collaboration with the North-West University (NWU) as part of their Tempo health and wellness programme.

The aim of the event, according to Ms Bonita Maboeta, senior wellness specialist at the NWU, was to raise awareness of and overcome the stigma surrounding the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS).

Youth Learning Festival reaches out to unemployed young people

Teaching the youth community-based research and transversal skills is a valuable investment in the future. It not only benefits the individual by providing practical skills and a sense of purpose, but also contributes to the growth and well-being of the community. This approach helps generate informed, engaged, and responsible citizens who can actively contribute to improving their communities.

In this spirit, the North-West University (NWU) hosted its first Youth Learning Festival at the Potchefstroom Campus on 18 August.

Technology Transfer and Innovation Support Office leads the way in empowering innovation

The North-West University (NWU) has taken significant steps to foster innovation and bring research breakthroughs to the market. Central to this effort is the Technology Transfer and Innovation Support (TTIS) Office.

The role of TTIS is to help researchers translate their academic research into practical solutions that have a societal impact. Researchers who believe that their research outputs have the potential to extend beyond the university, should submit an intellectual property (IP) disclosure to the TTIS.

Take a stand against plastic pollution

The North-West University (NWU) has recently launched a campaign to address the issue of plastic pollution. The campaign was initiated after the vice-chancellor, Prof Bismark Tyobeka, earlier this year challenged all staff and students to fight plastic pollution.

The launch of the campaign, #BeatPlasticPollution #StopUsingPlasticBottles, took place simultaneously across all three campuses, with events held at the Mahikeng, Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark campuses.
