Groundbreaking Sesotho Colloquium promotes indigenous languages

The School of Languages and the Language Directorate at the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted the very first Sesotho Colloquium, a significant milestone in promoting and celebrating the Sesotho language.

Held at the Riverside Hotel in Vanderbijlpark, this event marked the first time a conference of this scale was conducted entirely in an African indigenous language.

Paving the way for ethical leadership from Potchefstroom to Geneva

The North-West University's (NWU’s) Unit for Distance Learning (UDL) emerged as a pivotal voice at the recent International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Leadership Summit that took place from 5 to 7 June 2024.

This summit was a collaborative effort between the ICDE, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, and Globethics, an international NGO focused on ethical leadership.

Live Well and Wise Expo empowers students to take charge of their health

The recent Live Well and Wise health and wellness expo, an initiative hosted by the Health and the Student Counselling and Development centres on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mafikeng Campus, aimed to remind students that their health is their responsibility.

To support them in this endeavour, the centres brought together various stakeholders from the local community to provide essential health information.

Campus community steps into slippers to support seriously ill children

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Student Counselling and Development (SCD) division on the Vanderbijlpark Campus rallied up staff and students to support Slipper Day on 31 May.

Slipper Day is an annual fundraising event organised by Reach For A Dream that sees everyone from school children to corporate teams wear their slippers and Slipper Day stickers – all in support of seriously ill children who are in desperate need of hope and encouragement.

There’s no keeping a good man down

Jerry Bangude knows a thing or two about getting the best out of people. Why? Because he knows how to get the best out of himself.

It is this attribute that has helped shape his career as motivational speaker and author since he graduated from the North-West University (NWU).

“I want to motivate and inspire people, and I want to help people realise their full potential. I want them to unleash their greatness within. Most importantly, I want to help people follow their dreams so that they can live a fulfilled and purpose-driven life,” he explains.

Career coaching sessions empower students with essential skills and insights

The North-West University (NWU) Career Services recently presented career coaching sessions focusing on diversity and inclusivity for 29 students on the Potchefstroom Campus.  

This opportunity provided a platform for students to delve into important topics, exchange ideas with peers, and gain invaluable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.

Mahikeng Campus celebrates World Intellectual Property Day: making maths fun and fighting hunger

The North-West University (NWU) marked World Intellectual Property Day 2024 with vibrant celebrations across our Mahikeng and Potchefstroom campuses on 25 and 26 April. This year's theme, focusing on leveraging intellectual property for the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), drew an enthusiastic crowd comprising students, researchers and representatives from various state agencies.

Ancient grains and zero hunger spotlighted at NWU World IP Day

At the World Intellectual Property Day celebrations on 25 and 26 April 2024, the Mahikeng and Potchefstroom campuses of the North-West University (NWU) were buzzing with events. This year's focus was on how intellectual property can help achieve the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the events drew students, researchers and state agency representatives.

In Potchefstroom, two exhibitors highlighted the role of ancient grains in achieving zero hunger (SDG 2), building on Prof Sydney Mavengahama's presentation in Mahikeng on the same topic.
