bhive EDC's ignites dynamic entrepreneurship initiatives

In a bid to foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, the North-West University (NWU) recently held a start-up bootcamp, titled “Be your own boss”, simultaneously across all three campuses on 11 May 2024.

Spearheaded by the bhive Enterprise Development Centre (EDC), the initiative aimed to equip students with essential tools for success and to ignite a fire of entrepreneurship that promises to reshape the business landscape.

Surgeon general visits CHHP Biokinetics Division at the NWU

A delegation of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) visited the Biokinetics Division at the Centre for Health and Human Performance (CHHP) of the North-West University (NWU) on Wednesday, 15 May. The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Ntshavheni Maphaha, the surgeon general of the SANDF, met with Prof Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor of the NWU. Prof Awie Kotze, the director of Human Movement Sciences, and other senior staff members of the CHHP were among the guests who were present during the visit.

Student and academic collaborate at BRICS Youth Innovation Summit

North-West University (NWU) student Oscar Mosenogi and senior lecturer Dr Lerato Mdaka recently attended the BRICS Youth Innovation Summit that took place on 15 and 16 May at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria.

As deputy director for projects at the South African BRICS Youth Association (SABYA), Oscar was part of the organising team, while Dr Mdaka participated as an adjudicator.

Guest lecture guides students to master strategic thinking

On Tuesday, 7 May, students at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU) studying for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) honours in Management Sciences with Marketing and Management Sciences and Business Management were treated to a thought-provoking guest lecture. The lecture was delivered in an intercampus synchronic format, involving students from all three campuses, and it was presented as part of the advanced Strategic Management module.

Vanderbijlpark Campus excited about new recreational area for students

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus boasts a new recreational area for its students staying in the Longfellow and Ebukhosini residences.

The area, previously used as a dumping site, has been transformed into a vibrant space for students to relax and socialise thanks to Buhle Houses (Pty) Ltd. from whom the NWU leases the residences.

It includes a fully paved area with a stage, toilets, a small building that can be used as a tuck shop or a bar when an event is hosted on the premises, as well as two basketball rings for the sporty students.

Liezel bags bronze at Para Championships Japan

She did it again!

This alumna from the North-West University (NWU) is no stranger to the Land of the Rising Sun, as she also competed in Japan during the 2021 Paralympic Games.

Liezel finished third in the women’s 400m T37 race, and in doing so she also claimed South Africa’s first medal at the championships. In addition, she finished fifth in her long jump event.

Rotterdam mayor and entourage tour HySA facilities

Transitioning to green energy is not only important to fight climate change, but is essential for sustainable economies. The biggest and one of the busiest ports in Europe, Port Rotterdam, and the City of Rotterdam in the Netherlands are establishing a hydrogen hub as part of a hydrogen ecosystem to reduce carbon emissions and take the port and the city into the future.

Infrastructure South Africa delegation visit highlights student housing progress

On 15 May 2024 a delegation from Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), a programme within the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure, visited the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus to showcase the progress made with the 1 738-bed multi-funded student housing complex that was completed in 2022.
