Covid-19 has revolutionised how businesses and other institutions are run. The sports industry is no exception and has been massively affected by the global pandemic. Even though the industry has been broadcasting sports events for more than two decades now, this has been limited to professional teams and clubs.

Government commits to find solutions for unemployed IKS graduates

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, has expressed government’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to find solutions to unemployment for graduates within the indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) sector.

The Minister was speaking at a two-day virtual summit hosted by North-West University (NWU) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Universities of Venda, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal on 30 and 31 March 2021.

NWU joins in the fight against GBV

During the first three weeks of lockdown last year, gender-based violence (GBV) victims were trapped with their abusers, with no place to hide. During that time the government’s GBV and femicide command centre alone recorded more than 120 000 victims. Later that year police minister Bheki Cele announced that South Africa was still the rape capital of the world, with about 132 incidents per 100 000 people.
