Africa’s hurdle queen is driven by self-belief

Rogail Joseph discovered her love for athletics in the streets of Rodewal in Worcester, and has always believed that she could achieve anything. Now, as a South African 400 m hurdler and Olympic semi-finalist, it is her dedication and self-confidence that have paved her way to the world’s biggest sporting stage.

She became a running sensation at the age of 16, competing in the 2016 400 m hurdles U/16 Championships in Germiston and the 200 metres heat at the National Secondary Schools Championships in Bloemfontein. From there, her success on the track took off.

Promising pianist finds his voice through passion and performance

Even his name has a musical ring to it … Sergio José Tavares. But it is not his name that audiences remember. It is his playing and how much love he pours into it.

It takes countless hours of practice and dedication to master an instrument. Sergio, a young, talented and accomplished pianist, knows this well. His deep love for music makes all the demanding work worthwhile and, even if it is challenging sometimes, also rewarding – in the form of applause and awards.

The Anime Club Society ready to take Purple Con 2026 to the next level

The Anime Club Society of the North-West University Vanderbijlpark Campus, in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities, recently took an exciting step towards bringing Purple Con 2026 to life. The team gathered at a local restaurant to officially launch their partnership drive for what is shaping up to be one of the Vaal’s most anticipated cultural events of the year. Apply to study at the university you know and trust – #MyNWU

The North-West University (NWU) 2027 application season is open, and applications are coming in thick and fast. Since the opening of the application season on 1 June 2026, close to 20 000 prospective students have already submitted their applications.

Applications for selection courses will close on 30 June 2026 while applications for general courses and residences are scheduled to close on 31 August 2026.  Applications for postgraduate studies close on 30 November 2026.

90 minutes from the First Division: NWU chases historic promotion

The North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute is just 90 minutes away from securing its place in South African professional football.

After topping Group A of the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs in Mthatha, the North West champions have booked a semi-final showdown against KwaZulu-Natal champions Mkhambathi FC, with promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at stake.
