The North-West University’s (NWU’s) subject group Social Work celebrated its annual Solemn Declaration Ceremony, a significant event for social work students across the university.
The ceremony was organised by senior lecturer Tasleem Sayed from the Potchefstroom Campus, Dr Lucé Pretorius, deputy subject group leader and senior lecturer from the Vanderbijlpark Campus, and Ellen Tlhojane from the Mahikeng Campus.
From 08 to 10 November 2024, the Students' Representative Council (SRC) of North-West University (NWU) participated in an annual strategic planning and training workshop. Organised by the office of the executive director: student life, the workshop aimed to equip SRC members with the knowledge, skills, and strategic direction needed for their leadership roles in the upcoming term.
Over three days, participants engaged with key topics aligned with the University's strategy and mission, focusing on how the SRC can contribute to these goals.

In a celebration of traditional African food, dance, music and poetry, students at the Mahikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) came together for the fifth annual Cultural Day of the Student Life Department.
Held on 4 October at Sedibeng Park in Mahikeng, the event was a celebration of African unity, multiculturalism and student collaboration.
The Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark campuses of the North-West University (NWU) held their 2024 final-years’ functions on Wednesday, 10 October, creating a festive feeling among the students.
At the events, around 1 300 students from the Potchefstroom Campus and 700 students from the Vanderbijlpark Campus gathered to take pictures and videos, reflecting on their experiences at the university. With loads of fun and good company in order, the events also served as platforms for students to bid farewell to their peers.

This very theme, "Future Leaders: Embracing Change and Innovating Tomorrow" – set the stage for the second North-West University (NWU) Student Leadership Summit, held from 26 to 27 September at the picturesque ANEW Hunters Rest Lodge in Rustenburg. The summit aimed to equip student leaders with the tools and mindset necessary to navigate the complexities of modern leadership while fostering innovation and positive transformation.
The subject group Social Work at the North-West University (NWU) is preparing to host the highly anticipated Student Social Work Conference 2024. Scheduled to take place on 25 October 2024, the conference will carry the theme "Strengthening Foundations for Social Work's Critical Challenges".
The conference will take place from 08:00 until 16:00 on all three campuses and is linked to the BSWP471 module. It is a key part of the assessment and is expected to draw around 80 delegates, including partners, supervisors, stakeholders and students.

In celebration of Heritage Month, the North-West University (NWU) hosted an intercampus spelling bee competition to promote language diversity across its three campuses.
The event took place on 21 September at the Mmabana Convention Centre, where students competed in a friendly yet fierce contest, spelling in the language of their choice: English, Setswana or Afrikaans.
The North-West University (NWU) netball team is gearing up for a highly anticipated semi-final showdown against the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in the Varsity Netball tournament.
The two teams previously faced off in round 5, where UJ secured a victory. Now, the NWU is determined to turn the tables and secure a spot in the final.
