Three sport coaches from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark are blazing a trail of excellence within the sphere of student sport in South Africa.

Next Thursday, 27 July 2017, will see the start of one of the most anticipated football tournaments yet. The 2017 Varsity football season will kick-off with the North-West University (NWU) taking on the University of Fort Hare in an away game hosted at Fort Hare’s Davidson Stadium in Alice in the Eastern Cape.

Six football players of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark have been selected for the U/21 USSA (University Sport South Africa) football squad. This team will take part in the 2017 rendition of the SAB League Championships in Soweto.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng recently delivered a sterling performance at the annual 2017 University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament.

Canoeists from across the region and members of the Watuni Canoe Club – situated at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark – took to the water on Saturday, 24 June 2017, in remembrance of the late Gerhard Nel.

Reach for the sky or don’t even try.  This well-known basketball saying rang true during the recent high-profile NWU Vaal Senior Basketball Tournament which took place at the Harry Gwala Sport Centre in Sasolburg. This year marks the third rendition of the tournament and saw Sasol and Anglo American coming on board as the main sponsors of the event.

National First Division (NFD), Jomo Cosmos FC now boasts a new addition to their squad – Thapelo Tlabakwe, an alumnus of the Soccer Institute on the North-West University`s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus.

Not many university campuses in South Africa can boast with canoeing as a competitive sporting code, but at the North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus (NWU Vaal), the sport is going from strength to strength. 

Former SuperSport United FC player, Daylon Appolis, has recently joined the NWU Soccer Institute. Daylon has been part of the SuperSport United Academy based in Ladium since the age of 12.

The football club of the North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus has signalled their intentions for the remainder of the season by announcing the signing of four new players from the ranks of the Kaizer Chiefs Football Academy.
