In celebration of Women’s Month, Prof Linda du Plessis, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) deputy vice-chancellor for campus operations in Vanderbijlpark, wishes to share the following message with South African women – young and old:

The Student Campus Council (SCC) on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng recently hosted its first ever Women’s Empowerment Conference.

In her professional capacity as the executive chairperson of Sigma Capital, an investment holding company, Phuti will form part of the high-level speaker line-up of the upcoming North-West University (NWU) Leadership Summit.

If you thought that beauty pageants were just about high fashion and desirability, you have another thing coming. This year the North-West University (NWU) will host its inaugural unified beauty pageant with contestants from all three campuses taking to the catwalk.

With the 2018 rendition of the Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW2018) just a week away, the stage is set for a full programme on the North-West University’s (NWU) campus in Vanderbijlpark.

Given the economic climate of South Africa, entrepreneurs should be thought of as national assets to be developed, motivated and compensated to the greatest possible extent. Why, you ask? Because the value of entrepreneurs lie therein that they not only create wealth but also much needed jobs that ultimately stimulates economic growth.

A number of South Africa’s postgraduate students are studying part time and have a lower completion rate as compared to their international counterparts.

The establishment of a Chair on Multimodal Learning and OER at the North-West University (NWU) was recently approved by UNESCO. There are currently only 737 UNESCO chairs worldwide, of which only 10 are in South Africa.

After a very successful national Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW) during 2017, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will once again team-up with institutions of higher learning to host the 2018 rendition of SEW from 20 to 23 August.
