NWU School of Music launches book on musicing and spirituality
On 3 December 2021, authors and members of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Musical Arts in South Africa: Resources and Applications (MASARA) research niche area hosted a hybrid launch of the book titled Ritualised belonging: Musicing and spirituality in the South African context.
Extraordinary professor June Boyce-Tillman, Prof Liesl van der Merwe and Dr Janelize Morelli are the editors of this book – the culmination of a three-year National Research Foundation-funded research project titled “Social Cohesion through Community Music Engagement”.
Renovation of Education Library
The extension and renovation of the Education Library (C6c) on the Potchefstroom campus will start in January 2022. Site handover will take place on 11 January and the estimated time of completion is July 2022.
The spaces of the current Education library will be renovated and a double storey extension will be added to the front of the library. The ground floor will host a copy shop and the new EduLab, with connected working space for 104 students.

An academic and historian of the North-West University (NWU) is part of a community engagement project that documents all South Africa’s heritage sites and places of interest (POIs) by listing the location and explaining the meaning of all South African POIs on the Road Trip SA app.
NWU academic aims to boost environmental sustainability through industrial engineering
Meelan Roopa, a lecturer in the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Industrial Engineering, is currently conducting research on new ideas and strategic ways of achieving environmental sustainability for developing countries through industrial engineering.
His research explores the synergies, divergencies and needs of ensuring environmental sustainability using the theory, methods, techniques and strategies formulated within industrial engineering.
NWU’s Letago is a FameLab International runner-up
On Thursday, 25 November 2021, the world’s greatest science communication competition hosted its final showdown, where 10 young researchers and professionals battled it out for the title of world’s best science communicator in the FameLab International 2021 online final.
The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Letago Kgomoeswana represented the university and South Africa, and did her country and the NWU proud when she was announced as runner-up, along with Samantha Nixon from Australia. Alex Cloherty from the Netherlands was announced global champion.
