On 16 June it is Youth Day, a day when we celebrate the spirit of our children. But we shouldn’t. We should mourn for them on account of us.

It’s been war in the cyber world in the past few days. Cyber criminals tried, and succeeded in some instances, to infiltrate work and home computers all over the world, and in the process destroyed valuable information.

The North-West University (NWU) has joined the worldwide campaign to raise blood pressure awareness with a series of screenings at its campuses and in surrounding communities in May as part of the largest screening campaign ever.

Absa Bank has donated R7 million to the North-West University 9NWU) as part of a scholarship programme that will increase access to tertiary education for young people. The donation will be used to provide scholarships to deserving and needy students.

Good work never goes unnoticed. This was emphasised during the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Institutional Teaching Excellence Awards ceremony (ITEA) which took place on 20 April in Potchefstroom.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) ‘Meal-a-Day’ project has made a significant contribution to the physical well-being of students over the past eight years.

At the meeting of the NWU Council on 16 March 2017, Dr Mzubanzi Bismark Tyobeka was elected as the new chairperson who will steer the Council for the next three years. This follows the expiry of the previous chairperson, Adv Johan Kruger's term of office at the end of March 2017. He did not avail himself for re-election.
