With more than 22 years of experience within the higher education, research and innovation sector, Prof Fulufhelo Netswera has been appointed as the new director for the North-West University School of Business and Governance
Fulufhelo says that he is very excited about his new role. “I have a good grasp of what is required to run a successful school and develop a cohort of future leaders, academics and civil society activists. I am confident that together with my colleagues we will collectively be able to achieve a lot.”
When asked about his plans for the business school, he says: “My plans will complement the current short-term and long-term goals that the school has developed and implemented.”
He adds that he will work towards making the School of Business and Governance a top international institution that will showcase its uniqueness in teaching approaches, research outcomes, experiences and culture.
An expert with impressive credentials
Fulufhelo’s academic career kicked off in 1995 at the University of the Western Cape where he was a teaching assistant in economics. He then progressed through the academic and management ranks at various institutions within the higher education, research and innovation sector.
Some of his previous positions include terms as the deputy dean at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, director of the Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership, director of the South African BRICS Think Tank, director of research management at UNISA and research grants manager for the National Research Foundation.
He also serves as an adjunct professor at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in the Faculty of Economics and Finance, and adjunct professor at the Uganda Technology and Management University.
He has supervised more than 17 postgraduate students and continues to supervise at TUT, UNISA, University of Limpopo, Durban University of Technology and Cape Peninsula University.
“My biggest achievement is seeing my fellow colleagues thrive, postgraduate students benefitting from world-class quality research and learning experiences and obtaining their qualifications in record time,” he says.
Apart from his academic and leadership duties, Fulufhelo continues to be an active researcher.
His appointment is effective from 1 November.
