Learn more about Vedic Mathematics

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SMSTE) will soon host a series of mathematics workshops for students and teachers on Vedic Mathematics, an ancient Indian technique that has been used for centuries to solve complex mathematical problems quickly and efficiently.

The series will kick off on 10 June with an online event, hosted by the Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics (IAVM).

Vanderbijlpark Campus celebrates PhD graduates

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus 2023 winter graduations ended with a special congratulatory ceremony for PhD graduates, hosted by Prof Linda du Plessis, deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations.

This event followed the 18 PhD graduates’ graduation ceremony where NWU principal and vice-chancellor Prof Bismark Tyobeka conferred their degrees upon them at the new Tsebonokeng Hall.

NWU enlightens students by unveiling the future through the auditor's journey

Third-year chartered accounting and postgraduate diploma students from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Accounting Sciences recently had a once-in-a-lifetime practical experience in auditing.

The school, led by senior lecturer Odette Geyer, together with PKF Octagon and the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), hosted an event themed “A day in the life of an auditor” to give the students an idea of what they can anticipate in the near future.

NWU's Vanderbijlpark Campus celebrates new state-of-the-art Tsebonokeng Hall

The newly built Tsebonokeng Hall on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark was officially opened on 29 May 2023.

Located on the site of the old Building 24, which used to be the administration building, construction of the hall started in July 2022 and was completed in March 2023.

Public lecture and round table discussion focus on BRICS opportunities for researchers

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Afrocentric Governance of Public Affairs (AGoPA) research focus area recently hosted its inaugural public lecture titled “Mainstreaming South Africa and Africa - the G20 Agenda: Implications for research in higher education” as well as a roundtable discussion titled “BRICS Expansion: Challenges and Prospects”.

Prof Anil Sooklal, an extraordinary professor at the research focus area, was the guest speaker.

NWU prepares students for the world of work

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management (IPS & HRM) recently hosted a work readiness workshop at the Vanderbijlpark Campus with great success.

Dr Thapelo Chaacha, programme leader for the Human Resource Management programme, says the event aimed to give third-year and honours’ students an idea of what is expected of them in the world of work within the human resources field.

At a recent webinar the North-West University (NWU) hosted in collaboration with several partners, the shared dream was to encourage investments and financial growth in the Vaal region.

History subject group hosts a seminar on Umkhonto we Sizwe

The subject group History at the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted Prof Thula Simpson, associate professor of history at the University of Pretoria, as part of the group’s seminar series.

Prof Simpson is also a British scholar who holds a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London, and is the author of the acclaimed book, Umkhonto we Sizwe: The ANC's Armed Struggle.

During the seminar Prof Simpson presented a paper titled “Umkhonto we Sizwe and its Historians: Action, Reaction and Counteraction, c. 1963 to the Present”.

NWU employee and team earn 5th place in national sailing competition

Nico Kroucamp, a senior information technology technician at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, along with his two teammates, Dirk Manten and JJ van Niekerk, finished fifth out of 28 teams during the J22 class sailing competition, an annual event that took place from 28 to 30 April 2023.

Optentia to host top international scientist

The North-West University’s (NWU's) Optentia research unit will host a top international scientist, Prof Alexandre JS Morin, on its Vanderbijlpark Campus on 29 May 2023.

Prof Morin will present a hybrid workshop on structural equation modelling, targeted at academics and master’s and PhD students who use quantitative data-analysis techniques to study the validity of models.
