The North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management recently held a Work Readiness Workshop to empower students in the school with the necessary know-how to successfully join the workforce after graduating.
Dr Thapelo Chaacha, deputy director of the school, organised the event.
A delegation from the University of the West Indies (UWI) recently visited the Vanderbijilpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU), marking a significant step forward in the relationship between the two institutions.
The delegation included Sandrea Maynard, pro-vice-chancellor for global affairs, Prof Aldrie Henry-Lee, pro-vice-chancellor for graduate studies and research, and Dr Halimah DeShong, head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies.

This annual leading international cross-sector event on technology-supported learning and training fosters dialogue and collaboration between high-level decision-makers from the education, business and government sectors.
At a recent North-West University (NWU) Council meeting, the Faculty of Humanities secured approval to establish a Digital Humanities (DH) Centre in 2025.
Prof Mirna Nel, the deputy dean for research and innovation in the faculty, who leads the development team, expressed excitement about this approval. Notably, the only other DH Centre in Africa is at the University of Lagos in Nigeria, making this initiative significant for advancing the field on the continent.
The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Humanities has another cause for celebration. Prof David Scott-Macnab, a B2-rated researcher with the National Research Foundation and professor in English literature, has been awarded a prestigious Leverhulme Foundation visiting professorship at the Centre for Medieval Studies at Bristol University in the UK.
These awards are highly competitive with a success rate of 6-8%, making an award at the University of Bristol, one of the UK’s 24 research-intensive Russell Group universities, even more of an accomplishment.
The Geekulcha Student Society on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbiljpark Campus recently hosted an Ideathon, a cybersecurity training and idea-generation event that brought together more than 100 industry experts and participants.
This formed part of a series of ideathons for training, idea generation and pre-selection as a build-up to the Security Summit 2024 Hackathon, which is set to take place on 4 and 5 June 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus held its inaugural BA and BCom Law Mock Trial competition on 19 April at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court, where second and third-year students showcased their legal prowess.
The trial marked a significant educational milestone.
On 19 April, the North-West University's (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours for the Run with Colour Fun event as part of Gender Awareness Week.
Staff and students eagerly joined this lively and meaningful celebration, setting aside their busy schedules to participate in a unique demonstration of unity and diversity.
The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently unveiled its new solar carport plant. The plant features 696 solar panels with a peak capacity of 382 kW. It is expected to generate 1500 kWh per day and 505 MWh per year. Electrical and mechanical technician Mike Odendaal says not only will the plant provide green power into the 11 kV network under normal conditions when municipal or grid power is available, but it will also assist the standby generators by increasing the emergency power available during sunny weather.
