The School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management at the North-West University (NWU) hosted a work-readiness workshop webinar for third-year and postgraduate students (honours and master’s degree) across all programmes.
On Tuesday, 12 March 2024, NWU students attended the annual work-readiness workshop on the Potchefstroom Campus. The main aim of the webinar was to equip the students with the skills and knowledge they need to successfully transition into the world of work.
Among the distinguished speakers were Mrs Olwethu Machine, manager of the early talent division at Kumba Iron Ore, and Mrs Rene Schreuder, the co-founder and managing director of Flink. Ms Nombulelo Malunga, career development practitioner at the NWU, and Mrs Telisha van der Merwe, co-founder and managing director at Flink, were the other speakers.
Ms Debbie Mtshelwane, lecturer and Human Resource Management programme leader, welcomed all the students and esteemed speakers.
Mrs Olwethu Machine spoke on the five key formulas to ensure graduate career success that would transform graduates into thriving professionals, and she said the students should be critical in navigating their career parts. “It is crucial that you approach your careers with intent. You need to be deliberate, take cognisance of what is happening and view yourself as a brand,” she added.
In addition, Mrs Telisha van der Merwe and Mrs Rene Schreuder gave an overview of Flink and emphasised how the organisation assists graduates to optimise themselves through their psychometric assessment, which will ensure they match the culture of the hiring organisation.
